Jaxson Dart was so focused on competing, he forgot to do the things that would've helped him compete. Saturday's Grove Bowl was not a banner day for Ole Miss football's quarterbacks competing for the starting job. Dart and sophomore Luke Altmyer combined to complete 20 of 52 pass attempts (38.5%) for 348 yards. Dart threw two fourth-quarter touchdowns to go along with two first half interceptions. Altmyer ran for two touchdowns against a defense that wasn't allowed to touch him.

Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin said he thought Altmyer was in more control and Dart's focus might've been in the wrong place. "I thought he was trying to win the job instead of just playing quarterback," Kiffin said. "He was forcing balls and not being very consistent. In the second half he ended up calming down and taking it one play at a time and ended up making some plays." When Dart was bad, he was atrocious. His first interception happened because he overthrew tight end Michael Trigg over the middle and put the ball right in safety Derek Bermudez's belly. Then Dart sprinted upfield to try to make a tackle, lowered his shoulder straight into linebacker Troy Brown and ended up getting leveled. His other interception came because he threw a ball straight to cornerback Tysheem Johnson without a receiver within five yards. Johnson returned the pass 73 yards for a touchdown. - The Clarion Ledger
