When the Oklahoma State football season ended, quarterback Spencer Sanders was standing on the stage at the Fiesta Bowl, holding the offensive MVP trophy from the 37-35 comeback win over Notre Dame. He had thrown for 371 yards and four touchdowns, both season highs. He had completed 34 of 51 passes and rushed for 125 yards, all of which were career highs. And he helped lead the Cowboys out of a 28-7 hole for one of the biggest victories in program history. So it seems safe to say Sanders closed the season with the best performance of his career.

Of course, one game earlier, Sanders threw four interceptions as the Cowboys came up inches short of the Big 12 championship. And that encapsulates Sanders' embattled Cowboy career. However, in 2021, he showed more consistency, despite a couple of lapses, than he had shown in the previous two seasons. Now with Sanders heading toward his fourth season as the starting quarterback, the Cowboys know what they have: a special talent whose mistake-prone tendencies are becoming fewer and farther between. - Daily Oklahoman
