Following a shaky first career start last Saturday, Gators quarterback Emory Jones took ownership of his performance in the postgame news conference and again during his media availability Monday. Jones accounted for nearly 200 yards of total offense and a touchdown pass in Florida's 35-14 win over FAU, but threw two interceptions and had a turnover on downs on fourth-and-goal. "I missed too many throws that I never miss," Jones said after the game. "It's me getting more comfortable, just being out there actually being excited. Got to lock in and get better every week." Jones vowed to get back in the lab and have better attention to detail, and he's done that this week according to Florida coach Dan Mullen.

During his appearance Wednesday on the SEC teleconference, Mullen offered his take on why Jones struggled in the season opener. "Overall, he played pretty well last Saturday, but made some errors that he's not used to making," Mullen said. "I don't know if trying to do too much is the word. Almost trying to be too perfect, too exact, mind is going in a million different directions trying to do too many things on the field instead of trusting your fundamentals, your techniques and doing what you're supposed to do. "I think this week in practice I've seen that. You've seen him this week, 'Make sure my feet are exact. Am I on balance? ... My mind's not trying to process a million things. My mind's focused on what's important and what I need to do.' I've seen that and that's a good step forward." - Gainesville Sun
