On paper, the wide receiver room undoubtedly will be a strength for SMU heading into the 2021 season. Reggie Roberson Jr., even after a season-ending knee injury, was recently named a Top 100 player in college football by ESPN. Senior Danny Gray is on the radar of NFL teams, and Rashee Rice has over 1,000 yards in two seasons at SMU, making him a prime candidate for a breakout junior season.

And then there's Arizona State transfer Jordan Kerley. "You go and look at fall camp and I'm not so sure he hasn't been our most consistent receiver," head coach Sonny Dykes recently said. Saturday was a good example. Kerley, a transfer and Austin native, had three touchdown receptions in team drills - both 7on7 and 11on11 - at SMU's open practice in Ford Stadium, including a touchdown reception from freshman Preston Stone that went for at least 50 yards. SMU's practices have been open to the media, and with each practice he's seemingly progressed to the point where he's now turning heads. "We have gotten a lot of chemistry over the past few weeks," Kerley said, "and I feel like our team is definitely cooking." - Dallas Morning News
