For the first half of Tuesday's football practice, the University of New Mexico defense was in control. But quarterback Terry Wilson and the Lobos' offense took over during the second half of practice, the team's first in pads during preseason camp. Overall, the Lobos have a long way to go before their opener Sept. 2, UNM coach Danny Gonzales said. "I don't think it was very good," Gonzales said of Tuesday's practice. "I thought it was a little bit softer than we like, which is a bad thing. First period wasn't very good, The last period I thought the offense picked it up a little bit." Wilson, a transfer from Kentucky, took the majority of the snaps with the first team and showed his dynamic running ability. Gonzales said Wilson's leadership stood out as well. The Lobos coach said he has been trying to change it up for a different QB to take the most snaps each practice. "He's a playmaker," wide receiver Cjay Boone said of Wilson. "Terry is a great quarterback. He's one of my guys. We always get extra work in every day. "Some of things that stick out about Terry is his running ability. That man can run. He's just a veteran. He's been able to make great passes. Obviously he's not going to be perfect every time, but he's doing his thing." - Albuquerque Journal
