Offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee made it clear during spring camp that he's looking for one of UM's running backs to emerge as the team's primary rusher in 2021. Last season, carries among the Hurricanes' tailback unit were mainly distributed between Cam'Ron Harris (11.4 carries per game), Donald Chaney Jr. (6.2) and Jaylan Knighton (5.8). Harris, who started 10 of 11 games last year, is the most experienced of the aforementioned trio, but his touches decreased as 2020 went on.

Knighton started in place of Harris in Miami's final regular-season road matchup at Duke last year, but Knighton sustained a season-ending shoulder injury early in the game, leading to Harris closing out the year as the starter. It looked like Knighton was ahead of Harris for the starting job earlier this year after the second-year running back started with the first-team offense in the spring game. But with Chaney expected to be healthy and ready for the start of fall camp after missing the spring due to a shoulder injury, expect for this competition to stretch well into the preseason. - Sun Sentinel
