Jermaine Johnson, a productive edge rusher for UGA, put his name in the transfer portal last December because he thought he could make even more plays somewhere else if given a chance for increased playing time. "It was kind of crazy," Johnson said of the many options presented. "I didn't know where I was going to go. It was kind of stressful. It was like a recruiting aspect, but you didn't have months to deal with it. I had to do it in like under a month." The place he landed at turned out to be Florida State. Seminoles coach Mike Novell didn't know Johnson, who took advantage of the NCAA's extra year of eligibility after his senior year at Georgia. He found out a lot about him by speaking to UGA defensive coordinator Dan Lanning, who worked under Norvell at Memphis.

Johnson and Norvell quickly bonded during their time in Tallahassee this offseason. Johnson was selected as one of three Seminoles brought to the ACC Kickoff event last month in Charlotte, N.C. "He believed in the man I am, the man I can be and also the player I am and the player I could be," Johnson said. Johnson was asked by a reporter who covers Miami about another former Georgia players, cornerback Tyrique Stevenson, who transferred to play for the Hurricanes. "Tyrique's invaluable, he's a great player," Johnson said. "I saw how great a player he was and can when he came to Georgia. I talk to him every once in a while. He's very happy at Miami right now. He wouldn't want to be any place else." - Athens Daily Banner
