DeVonta Smith added another honor to his collection Wednesday when the SEC announced he was the Roy F. Kramer SEC Male Athlete of the Year recipient. The award is voted upon by the league's athletics directors and Kentucky volleyball player Madison Lilley was named female athlete of the year. Smith is the 12th from Alabama to win an athlete of the year honor and the fourth from the football team. Mark Ingram was the most recent male athlete of the year from his Heisman season in 2009. Derrick Thomas (1988-89) and Cornelius Bennett (1986-87) were the previous football winners of the award first presented in 1976 for men and 1984 for women. It was named for former SEC commissioner Ray Kramer in 2004. - Birmingham News
