Texas Tech football coach Matt Wells and his staff added experience and depth to the wide receiver corps Saturday afternoon. Troy wide receiver Kaylon Geiger announced via social media his commitment to play for Texas Tech. "Blessed! Back home with it," Geiger wrote in a Tweet on Saturday. The 2019 Sun Belt Newcomer of the Year led the Torjans in receptions and receiving yards during his two seasons in Troy, Alabama. He is scheduled to have one year of eligibility. Gieger, listed at 5-foot-10 and 170 pounds, played at the slot position while at Troy but could be utilized all over the field and also on special teams during his time with the Red Raiders.

The Fort Worth native may draw comparisons to former wideout KeSean Carter, who elected to transfer to Houston. Carter was a 5-11, 190-pound wideout who caught 30 passes for 290 yards and four touchdowns, but missed four games with elbow and collarbone injuries, the latter requiring season-ending surgery. During a COVID-shortened season as a senior, Geiger caught 64 passes for 752 yards and three touchdowns. - Lubbock Avalanche Journal
