Spencer Sanders will close the door on his third year in the OSU program with the Cowboys' spring game at noon on Saturday at Boone Pickens Stadium. But Sanders has missed out on some key developmental periods during his career. He missed the final six weeks of his redshirt freshman season because of a thumb injury, and was robbed of spring ball last year. Then he missed a few more weeks at the start of the 2020 season with an ankle injury. With all that taken into account, Sanders is in that wheelhouse of two-and-a-half to three years where Gundy says the quarterback should start to solve the Rubik's Cube.

"I'm seeing things now that I didn't see from him last year," Gundy said of Sanders. "Now, he just needs to continue to do it, we need to keep things simple, let him play fast and do what he does. Let him roll." Adding to Sanders' comfort in the offense, he's working with the same coordinator and quarterback coach in consecutive seasons for the first time in his OSU career. So rather than building relationships and learning a new voice, he's rolling forward with the momentum he gained toward the end of last season - particularly in the Cowboys' 37-34 win over Miami in the Cheez-It Bowl. "I've been through three coaches, so I've been through different technique, different footwork," Sanders said. "I would say from fall camp to spring ball, I feel like I'm a lot more comfortable. I feel like the offense is a lot more comfortable. I feel like we're moving good and we're knowing each other." - Daily Oklahoman
