Wilson, Gonzales and the other UNM quarterbacks said it's all about competing and no one will be handed the starting role. Yet, Wilson, a 6-foot-2, 203-pound dual threat, said he has done his research. He left Kentucky because he wants the opportunity to throw the ball more and showcase his arm talent. Wilson said he trusts UNM offensive coordinator Derek Warehime because he played for his "pops," Nick Warehime, the coach at the time at Del City High School in Oklahoma. "A lot of that is just confidence, just believing in yourself," Wilson, 23, said. In 2018 as a redshirt sophomore, Wilson led Kentucky to its first 10-win season since 1977. That season featured a 27-16 win at Florida for the first time since 1986, and ended with a 27-24 win over Penn State in the Citrus Bowl. He had just come from Garden City Community College in Kansas after he transferred from Oregon, where he redshirted his freshman season in 2016 when Justin Herbert beat him out for the Ducks' starting spot. Wilson suffered a torn patellar tendon in his left knee that required surgery after two games in his junior season in 2019. Last season, he completed 125 of 200 passes (62.5 completion rating) for 1,187 yards and seven touchdowns for the 5-6 Wildcats. - Albuquerque Journal
