Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields has been named the Big Ten's best overall player, receiving the Chicago Tribune Silver Football award on Wednesday. He totaled 25 points and received 12 first-place votes from the conference's 14 head coaches, who are unable to vote for their own players. Iowa defensive lineman Daviyon Nixon finished in second place with five points, receiving one first-place vote, while Minnesota running back Mohamed Ibrahim was third. Two of Fields' receivers, Chris Olave and Garrett Wilson, were tied for fourth with Indiana quarterback Michael Penix Jr. Wilson received a first-place vote, while Olave garnered two second-place votes. Fields is the 20th Buckeye to capture the award, which was first given out in 1924, and the seventh selection in the past nine years. - Columbus Dispatch
