Draft Scout College Football Player News

The NCAA will move forward without the use of standardized player availability reports this college football season. The organization's Board of Governors made the decision on Wednesday, stating that player availability reporting "is not a viable option at this time." It was part of a larger discussion centered on the impact of legalized sports gambling and its impact on amateur athletics and the NCAA. The availability reports would have been a similar concept as injury reports used by professional leagues like the NFL or NBA.

The group also reaffirmed its support of current legislation that forbids coaches and athletes from wagering on sporting events or providing information to others who are involved in sports wagering. "The ad hoc committee gathered thorough feedback from conference commissioners, athletics administrators, athletic trainers and student-athletes across all three divisions about potential player availability reporting," said Michael Drake, chair of the Board of Governors following the group's meeting Tuesday in Indianapolis. "The membership has significant concerns about the purpose, parameters, enforcement and effectiveness of a player availability reporting model." - Orlando Sentinel

Tracking/Logging/Cross checking CFB Player injuries, especially important for the yearly Draft pool is a full-time job within many other categories of information gathering. It's VERY vital information for Team Scouting Director's and Area Scouts gather it up best they can until the end of season reports, which the NCAA does help. By then though, it's more vital to the Draft process and the gambling issues they claim play no part, really. There are still folks who help track it pretty well (Injury Portal style) including the teams, but the information is very fluid.
