Eleby has always had the physical tools, and his power was on full display in the season opener against Akron when he threw a ball 55 yards in the air on a 68-yard Jaylen Hall touchdown catch. "Arm strength-wise, I think he's as good as I've ever had, and it does allow us to use the whole field, and that's a big difference in a game, especially nowadays, where defenses are picking and choosing what they're going to take away," Lester said. "They know the easy throws… if you can have a run game and a quarterback that can throw it all over the field efficiently, it makes you really hard to stop." The area where Eleby has made the biggest strides this season is focusing on the little things, such as where to put the ball to maximize yards after the catch, working on his body and mastering WMU's run-pass-option-heavy playbook.

"He's tremendously talented; I think we've all known that from the from the moment he got here, and he has really put time into his body and getting his body stronger, leaner," Lester said. "He's put a ton of time into understanding what we're doing. We've made three or four unique tweaks to our offense this year that have been helping us a lot, and he was right in with us and all those meetings, understanding what we're looking at, what we're trying to do. "He is really way beyond his years when it comes to being an active participant in what we're doing, and he has ideas. A lot of times young guys are out there, and they're just mutes - they don't say anything - they really can't regurgitate what they're seeing. "When he's out there, he's seeing it, he's coming up with ideas, and he's really part of the process, which I think just shows how much studying he's doing. He's in here studying all the time, which is not something he used to do. I see him around a lot more, so he's invested in it, and I'm just so happy that he's having the success that he's having." - Kalamazoo Gazette
