Quarterback Tyler Shough was handed the keys to Joe Moorhead's new offensive system on Saturday after playing behind Justin Herbert for two seasons. After a slow start, the redshirt sophomore settled in and made several big plays. Shough completed 17-of-26 passes for 227 yards and one touchdown. He also rushed for 85 yards with a 9-yard scoring run on 11 carries, which no doubt thrilled the fan base watching from home. A common criticism of the Oregon offense the last two seasons under former offensive coordinator Marcus Arroyo was his failure to utilize Herbert as a runner. Shough's start was far from perfect, with an interception early in the second quarter. But he also completed long passes to Mycah Pittman (44 yards) and Johnny Johnson III (38 yards) and threaded a pass between three defenders to Jaylon Redd for a nice gain. - Register Guard
