Florida State quarterback Jordan Travis provided a much-needed spark for a lethargic Seminoles offense during his first career start, but it wasn't enough. The improved Seminoles suffered their third loss of the season, falling 42-26 on the road Saturday to No. 5 Notre Dame. Travis combined for 300 total yards of offense, scoring two touchdowns, but a poorly thrown ball that was intercepted in the end zone midway through the fourth quarter squashed a late chance to cut into the Fighting Irish's lead. "There were some bright moments, but we didn't get the job done," FSU coach Mike Norvell said.

While the offense showed signs of life, the FSU defense didn't have an answer for Notre Dame's ground game, which amassed 353 yards and four touchdowns. It was the most rushing yards against a Seminoles team since Notre Dame rushed for 365 yards on Nov. 10, 2018. Tailbacks Kyren Williams (185 yards) and Chris Tyree (104 yards) combined for 288 of the 353 yards with touchdowns of 46, 1 and 45 yards. The Fighting Irish finished with 554 yards of total offense, the most allowed by an FSU team since Boise State amassed 621 yards on Aug. 31, 2019. The team averaged 8.3 yards per play during the game. - Orlando Sentinel
