  Draft Scout by Conference

If Cincinnati (2-0) is going to have a special season this year, it can't be in spite of Ridder. It has to be at the very least in part because of him. After an up and down 2019, the 2018 American Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year separated himself from sophomore backup Ben Bryant during the final week of fall camp to become the Bearcats' starter this season. But the distance between the two quarterbacks may have gotten a tiny bit tighter on Saturday. Ridder started the game with a bad read on an option play on UC's opening drive. The mistake resulted in a fumbled pitch that went 41 yards the other way for an Army (2-1) touchdown. It was the first of two turnovers for Ridder in the opening quarter.

"I think it's about getting into a rhythm," Fickell said. "I don't think early on we were in that rhythm." Ridder threw a pass intended for Michael Young Jr., but the ball sailed high and wound up in the lap of a Black Knights defender. It was one of several miscues, batted balls at the line and inaccurate throws to open receivers for Ridder in the opening half. "I'm sure if you ask Michael Young, he'll tell you that he's got to come down with some of those things," Fickell said. "Their No. 1 job sometimes is to make the quarterback look good. If the ball's not perfect, you've got to come down with it. That's why it's a team." - Cincinnati Enquirer
