Boston College tight end Hunter Long blocks like a sixth lineman and stretches the field like a wide receiver. That combination of quality attributes will be put to use in BC's new TE-friendly multiple pro set schemes being implemented by offensive coordinator Frank Cignetti. "He can be a huge weapon and even more important is his blocking," said BC coach Jeff Hafley. "When you find a tight end that is successful in the pass game they are usually not as good of a blocker. "You are looking at the complete tight end. He can line up and help us a ton in the run game and at the same time he can flex out and mix in as another receiver for you."

Long led the team with 509 receiving yards on 28 catches last season in former coach Steve Addazio's two tight end "12 personnel" power run scheme. The 6-5, 253-pounder, from Exeter, N.H., averaged 18.8 yards per catch, an absurd number for a pass-eligible appendage on the offensive line. Speedy wide receivers Kobay White and Zay Flowers averaged 15.9 and 15.5 yards per catch, respectively. Long matches up well against two now-NFL tight ends to come out of the ACC in the last four years, BC's Tommy Sweeney (Bills) and Ryan Izzo (Patriots) of Florida State. "He creates a weapon really anywhere on the field when you get into certain field positions," said Hafley. "I'm just really glad he's here and I like the way he works and he handles everything like a pro." - Boston Herald
