Ohio State defensive lineman Haskell Garrett was shot in the face in the University District early Sunday morning after attempting to break up a fight between two people, he told Columbus police. Garrett, 22, was walking toward the 400 block of Chittenden Avenue when he noticed a man and a woman "arguing and being aggressive," according to a copy of a police report obtained by The Dispatch. In response, Garrett asked the man to stop fighting with the woman before the man fired his handgun at him. Garrett, who was struck once, said he did not know either person. Police later found a gun shell at the scene and a trail of blood that led to an apartment about a half-mile away, where Garrett had retreated. He had a gunshot wound through both cheeks. Two witnesses were interviewed at the scene, including Ohio State linebacker Pete Werner, who told a 911 dispatcher he was a roommate of Garrett's. No further details were included in the report. - Columbus Dispatch
