The Tigers just missed being ranked in the poll, which was released Monday, for the first time in school history. They were ranked 26th overall and received 86 votes, 47 behind No. 25 Tennessee. Cincinnati was ranked No. 20, and Central Florida was ranked No. 21, the only non-Power Five conference teams ranked. Clemson was No. 1 followed by Ohio State, Alabama, Georgia and Oklahoma. Memphis was ranked No. 17 in the final AP Top 25 last season, its highest end-of-year ranking in school history. The Tigers also weren't ranked in the preseason Amway Coaches Top 25 poll this month. But that could change after their season opener Sept. 5. - Memphis Commercial Appeal
