At 4 p.m. on April 28, Noah Vedral's name appeared in the NCAA transfer portal. Within minutes, the Nebraska quarterback became the most popular college football player on the planet, judging by how his Twitter follows erupted. Three Rutgers assistants - offensive coordinator Sean Gleeson, director of recruiting Timothy Silvernail and director of player personnel Eric Josephs - were among the legion of college football staff members who followed Vedral on social media shortly after news of his departure from Nebraska broke. Greg Schiano took a different approach. The Scarlet Knights head coach immediately sought game film to see if Vedral would be the right quarterback to add to a program with no proven quarterback on the depth chart."We have a system when guys go into the portal," Schiano said Monday. "He goes immediately through a channel, and when I watched (Vedral) that evening, I knew right away we had to try to get him on our team if we could." Included in the more than 3,300 "likes" was nod from Gleeson, the Scarlet Knights' first-year offensive coordinator who will try to utilize Vedral's dual-threat talents this season. "I think the most attractive thing about Rutgers is Schiano and Gleeson," Vedral told the Lincoln (Neb.) Journal Star on May 13. "(Schiano) is a really good coach and he's had success. He's been a lot of places and he knows how the process of rebuilding is. I believe in him. I'm also really excited about Coach Gleeson. I think I'll do well in his offense. It's my style and it's things I do well." - Star Ledger
