  05/04/20 - SS Daniel ThomasSr/2020, Auburn

When the Jacksonville Jaguars selected Auburn's Daniel Thomas in the fifth round of the 2020 NFL Draft, 14 other safeties had been chosen already by NFL teams. "I seen a lot of safeties go in front of me," Thomas said. "I was kind of bothered by it. But God don't make no mistakes, and like it says in the Bible, the first shall be last and the last shall be first." Thomas told reporters in Jacksonville that he'd be coming to the Jaguars with "a chip on my shoulder." "I'm glad I didn't go first, glad I didn't go second, glad I didn't go third, glad I didn't go fourth," Thomas said. "Glad I went fifth round. That means I've got something to prove, you know? That means I've got more work to do. That means they thought I wasn't good enough."

Thomas said he could play either safety spot for the Jaguars, but he thought he fit better as a strong safety. "I feel like I'm more comfortable closer to the box," Thomas said. "I don't miss tackles in the box. You can go check the film. Anytime I was close to the box, I didn't miss a tackle, so if I'm in there, it's going to be a guaranteed tackle. I'm a sure tackler. I'm very confident in that. It's one of the best parts of my game. I can tackle really well." - Birmingham News
