  Draft Scout by Conference

Rising before dawn to work out, running stadium steps without a coach's insistence, determined to turn his potential into paydays, Jared Goldwire is a noseguard transformed. "A different human being," said Bryan Brown, the University of Louisville's defensive coordinator. "... A different animal." A talented player with newfound purpose. A noseguard to the grindstone, if you will. After averaging slightly more than 22 snaps per game last fall as G.G. Robinson's backup, Goldwire became the breakthrough performer of U of L's abbreviated spring practice. Coaches observed the fifth-year senior expending more effort on the practice field and devoting more time to football film study.

They saw indifference replaced by dedication. They saw a part-time contributor suddenly courting stardom. "I don't have an exact answer why he wasn't the dominant force he could have been last year," said Mark Ivey, U of L's defensive line coach. "But no doubt, he could have and should have. In the future, he's a guy who can be one of the best in the conference if he chooses to. I think he can be one of the best in the country, but that will be determined over a long period of time." - Courier Journal
