Draft Scout College Football Player News

Lavert Hill spent his five days in Indianapolis in late February and early March selling himself to NFL teams, pushing his experience and play-making ability while in college. The Michigan cornerback has a long, and at times impressive, resume: Three-time all-Big Ten selection, including first-team honors in both 2018 and 2019; 38 starts in the defensive backfield, and the statistics to back it up. "I'm a playmaker," Hill told reporters at the NFL Scouting Combine. "I make plays on the ball. I'm quick, I'm fast - and I play inside/ outside. I just do whatever for the team."

After a breakout 2017 season, one in which he started 12 games at cornerback and had 25 tackles (five for a loss), two interceptions and nine pass breakups, teams simply stayed away from him. He only had 14 tackles (one for a loss), an interception and six PBUs in 2018, never missing a tackle according to Pro Football Focus, and followed up in 2019 with similar numbers. But his senior season was a mixed bag of sorts for Hill, a Detroit native and former four-star recruit who did, in fact, make plays. But he was also penalized a lot, too. Hill notched a team-best three interceptions (and dropped an easy pick-6 in the opener against Middle Tennessee State) and 10 pass breakups, with 13 total pass deflections, but was flagged a total of nine times for holding or pass interference. "In the league it's changed so you can't touch them at the 5-yard (line), so I'm going to work on my technique and my feet more often," Hill said. "Just go out there and try and make plays on the ball." - Ann Arbor News
