  Draft Scout by Conference

  04/09/20 - SS *Grant DelpitJr/2020, LSU

Lingering questions remain for NFL executives and scouts on LSU safety Grant Delpit. Last month in Indianapolis at the NFL Combine, the former Tiger, Houston native and former four-star high school prospect addressed much of the criticism that he felt has come his way from those that'll be making the decision of when to draft him in two weeks when the league conducts the NFL Draft virtually April 23-25, saying he garnered "a lot of hate and slander from the media and the experts." From the scout's perspective observing and grading Delpit's Pro Day in Baton Rouge Wednesday afternoon, the LSU safety - who has been projected as high as a late first-round draft choice - pieced together a solid performance.

Delpit didn't go through the on-field portion of the Combine, as he was coming off playing the majority of the 2019 season with a high ankle sprain but posted a 4.39 40-yard dash during his Pro Day, a number that would've been the second-fastest time behind Louisiana Tech's L'Jarius Sneed. And while the times and the measurements, at 6-2, 213, stack up to a top-round grade, the scout still wonders if Delpit's junior season with the Tigers lacked the appropriate level of motivation. "He was faster than I thought he was. He had three years at LSU. As a scout though, you ask yourself if he played better as a sophomore," the scout told the USA TODAY Network. "A lot of times when kids declare, they don't play as hard when you see on tape sometime that year. But before, he would make the plays. - The News-Star
