  Draft Scout by Conference

Oregon's starting QB job was largely seen as Tyler Shough's to lose - and perhaps it still is. Shough, the backup to Justin Herbert last season, has been the presumptive favorite to take over the role in 2020. But Wednesday's commitment of graduate transfer Anthony Brown at least creates significant competition prior to the season, whenever it begins. Oregon coach Mario Cristobal, who in December said there was there was going to be an "open competition" this offseason, said Shough did well in the Ducks' four spring practices and is the starter as of today. "We think Tyler Shough did an outstanding job in the spring," Cristobal said during a conference call Friday. "He entered the spring as the starter; he leaves the spring as the starter. "We can't comment on any players that are not currently enrolled.

Like every single position on that field we're always going to present competition because it helps our players get better. But I can't emphasize enough how fired up we are about Tyler." Shough went 12 for 15 for 144 yards with three touchdowns and had two carries for 11 yards this season. He worked extensively with the first-team offense during spring practice while walk-on Bradley Yaffe and redshirt-freshman Cale Millen took most of the second-team reps and true freshman Jay Butterfield work with the third-team offense and rotated some with the second-team. - The Oregonian
