Tennessee quarterback Hendon Hooker left the Volunteers' game Saturday night against South Carolina after injuring his leg while running in the fourth quarter. The senior came into the game as a Heisman Trophy hopeful. but left early in the fourth quarte r walking with assistance and putting little weight on his left leg. Hooker kept the ball on an option play and went down without being hit. He dropped the ball before he hit the ground and the Gamecocks recovered the fumble at the Tennessee 17, scoring four plays later to take a 56-31 lead. Joe Milton III came in at quarterback on the next possession for the Vols. Hooker came into Saturday's game with 2,888 yards, completing 71% of his passes with 24 touchdowns and two interceptions. He was 25-of-42 fo r 247 yards and three TDs before his injury. - AP College Football

Trae Self scrambled 12 yards for the game-winning touchdown with 2:43 left to give Stephen F. Austin a 24-21 win over Abilene Christian Saturday and the Lumberjacks claimed the Western Athletic Conference championship. The Lumberjacks earned the outright conference title for the first time since 2010. Self finished 26 of 37 passing for 397 yards and two touchdowns for SFA (6-5, 3-2). The four-year starter surpassed 10,000 career passing yards in the game. Xavier Gipson had 11 catches for 213 yards and a touchdown. Gipson finished the regular season as the leading receiver in the WAC and entered the game ranked eighth in the FCS in receiving yards per game. Quarterback Frank Harris accounted for five touchdowns and 227 yards and Conference USA-leading UTSA smashed Rice 41-7 on Saturday. Harris was 11-for-14 passing for 103 yards and two touchdowns while running for 124 yards on seven carries with three touc hdowns. Harris' 63- and 15-yard scoring runs put the Roadrunners (9-2, 7-0) ahead 14-0 in the first quarter. His 5-yard pass to Zakhari Franklin just before the quarter ended made it a three-score game. Down 41-0 just into the fourth, AJ Padgett threw a 43-yard touchdown to Bradley Rozner to get the Owls (5-6, 3-4) on the board. Dallan Hayden scored three touchdowns in the second half of No. 2 Ohio State's 43-30 victory over Maryland to set up a monumental matchup of unbeatens next weekend between the Buckeyes and rival Michigan. Just before Ohio State (11-0, 8-0 Big Ten, No. 2 CFP) and Maryland (6-5, 3-5) kicked off, third-ranked Michigan edged Illinois on a late field goal. The Buckeyes then had plenty of problems of their own against the Terrapins. Ohio State trailed 13-10 at halftime, and the Buckeyes were up just 33-30 whe n they turned the ball over on downs at the Maryland 42 with 6:36 remaining in the game. Ohio State forced a three-and-out, however, and Hayden helped the Buckeyes run out most of the remaining time. Noah Ruggles kicked a 45-yard field goal with 42 secon ds left, and Steele Chambers added a defensive touchdown with 9 seconds to play. Maryland quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa, who fumbled on that play, remained down on the field for a while before walking off very slowly. Hayden finished with 146 yards on 27 carries. TreVeyon Henderson returned after missing Ohio State's previous two games while injured. He caught an early 31-yard touchdown pass from C.J. Stroud but managed only 19 yards on 11 carries.Tagovailoa completed his first 11 passes, and alt hough the Terps settled for a couple field goals in the red zone early on, they went ahead 13-10 on a 1-yard TD catch by CJ Dippre with 3:52 left in the half. This was a far cry from the previous two Ohio State-Maryland meetings, which the Buckeyes won 7 3-14 and 66-17 - although it wasn't quite as harrowing for them as their 52-51 overtime win over the Terps in 2018. That game also came the week before they faced Michigan. Down by three in the third, the Buckeyes took back the lead after Lathan Ransom b locked a punt, giving Ohio State the ball at the Maryland 14. An 8-yard touchdown run by Hayden gave the Buckeyes a 17-13 advantage. Hayden scored on a 3-yard run with 16 seconds left in the third to make it 27-13, but Maryland answered with Tagovailoa's 5-yard scoring run early in the fourth. A 2-point conversion cut the lead to six. Cornerback Benjamin Morrison had three interceptions, the Notre Dame defense forced two fumbles and the No. 18 Fighting Irish scored on their first eight possessions to beat Boston College 44-0 on Saturday. The Fighting Irish (8-3) won their ninth straig ht against Boston College (3-8), the only other Catholic university playing in the FBS. Notre Dame also extended its regular-season winning streak against Atlantic Coast Conference teams to 28 games. The temperature at game time was 27 degrees, making it the coldest game at Notre Dame in nine years, and heavy snow fell through much of the third quarter. Notre Dame dominated from the start, with Logan Diggs breaking through the line untouched for 51 yards before being tackled at the BC 24-yard line. The Irish settled for a 26-yard field goal by Blake Grupe. On the next possession, Diggs scored on a 1-yard run, Drew Pyne threw a 1-yard TD pass to Matt Salerno and the rout was on. A little more than four minutes into the game, Notre Dame had more points t han Boston College had total yards - 17-7. Notre Dame had an 11:42 to 3:18 advantage in time of possession and only needed to make five tackles in the first quarter.The Eagles threatened to score after Emmett Morehead completed his first pass, 39 yards to Zay Flowers at the Notre Dame 25. But Morehead's next pass to Joe Griffin was intercepted by Morrison in the end zone. Morrison, who had two key interceptions two weeks ago in a win over Clemson, also intercepted Morehead at the BC 20-yard line on the Eagles' first possession and at the BC 47-yard field goal on the Eagles' first possession of the second half. The Irish had a 336-81 yards advantage in total yards in the first half and 214-1 yards in rushing offense to open a 37-0 halftime lead. For the game, the Irish had a 437-173 advantage in total yards. It was the fifth straight game the Fighting Irish have scored at least 35 points. The only other time that's happened was the first five games in 1943, when the Irish won a national champion ship with a record of 9-1. Lindsey Scott Jr. passed for 382 yards and five touchdowns, Marcus Cooper ran for a career-high 254 yards and two scores and Incarnate Word steamrolled Northwestern State 66-7 on Saturday. Scott and Incarnate Word (10-1, 5-1 Southland Conference), ranked 7th in the FCS coaches poll, spotted Northwestern State (4-7, 4-2) a 7-0 lead before scoring 66 straight. Scott had two touchdown passes in the first quarter, including a 10-yard scoring toss to Darion Chafin. Scott added an 18-yard scoring run and a sh ort scoring toss to Jaelin Campbell in the second quarter as the Cardinals took a 31-7 halftime lead. Scott threw touchdown passes to Chafin covering 51 and 48 yards around Cooper's 67-yard scoring run and Incarnate Word led 52-7 after three quarters. Co oper had a 78-yard touchdown run in the fourth. Chafin had six catches for 143 yards. DJ Uiagalelei threw for two touchdowns and ran for a third as No. 9 Clemson wrapped up an undefeated ACC regular season and won its 40th straight at home beating Miami 40-10 on Saturday. The Tigers (10-1, 8-0 ACC) have won at least 10 games in 12 straigh t seasons and - for a half - had their most dominant showing on both sides of the ball. Clemson scored touchdowns on three of its first four possessions while Miami (5-6, 3-4) was stuffed by the Tigers defense. Uiagalelei connected on a 7-yard TD pass to Davis Allen, then ran one in from 8 yards out to lead 14-0 less than 11 minutes in. After safety Jalyn Phillips' interception, Clemson again found the end zone on Uiagalelei's 2-yard throw to tight end Luke Price.Miami had no answers. Freshman Ja curri Brown, who sparked the Hurricanes to a 35-14 win over Georgia Tech last week, was hounded by Clemson's defenders and off target when he was able to throw the ball. The Hurricanes managed just 8 yards total the first two quarters and a season-low 98 for the game. In the second half, Miami took advantage of Clemson's sloppy play to tighten things up. A fourth-quarter fumble by Uiagalelei was returned to the Tigers 10 and backup Jake Garcia tossed a 1-yard score to Kahlil Brantley to cut things to 26 -10. But that's as close as the Hurricanes could come. They'll need a win over Pitt next week to make the postseason in coach Mario Cristobal's debut season. UWF's starting line has allow ed just four sacks in 2022, while also ranking seventh in the NCAA in rushing offense (school-record 243.2) and tenth in total offense (473.2). The rushing total is a school record for the second-consecutive season. Elam has served as the center every ga me this season after being injured at the position in the second game a year ago. Graham Mertz scored on a 2-yard quarterback sneak with 35 seconds left to complete Wisconsin's comeback from an 11-point deficit entering the fourth quarter, and the Badgers beat Nebraska 15-14 Saturday for their ninth straight win in the series. The Bad gers earned their grinding victory on a raw afternoon at Memorial Stadium after losing their top defensive player, Nick Herbig, to a targeting penalty in the third quarter and its top offensive player, Braelon Allen, to a leg injury on their second-to-la st possession. Wisconsin (6-5, 4-4 Big Ten) became bowl-eligible for a 21st straight year and kept the Freedom Trophy, which has been awarded to the winner since 2014.
