Coastal Carolina quarterback Grayson McCall will miss three to six weeks with a foot injury sustained a week ago in a win over Appalachian State. The school announced McCall's status Wednesday. The injury's recovery timeline means that McCall's availabil ity for a potential Sun Belt Conference championship game on Dec. 3 is in question. A school spokesman said in a text to The AP that McCall will not need surgery. The Chanticleers (8-1, 5-1) have a one-game lead in the East Division over first-year leagu e member James Madison.Coastal Carolina would also be in line to host the game as the division winner with the best overall record. McCall will be out for Coastal's home game with Southern Miss on Saturday. The team plays at Virginia of the Atlant ic Coast Conference on Nov. 19 before closing the regular season at James Madison. McCall is a two-time Sun Belt player of the year and is fifth in the country in passing efficiency (176.10). He set an NCAA mark in that category last season (207.65) McCa ll, a 6-foot-3, fourth-year junior from Indian Trail, North Carolina, has started the past three seasons, throwing for 7,700 yards with 75 touchdowns and seven interceptions over 33 games, 31 of them starts. - AP College Football

Georgia was the new No. 1 in the College Football Playoff rankings Tuesday night, followed by Ohio State, Michigan and TCU. The Bulldogs' rise from No. 3 was no surprise after their dominant victory against previously top-ranked Tennessee on Saturday. Cl emson, which was No. 4 in the selection committee's first rankings last week, also lost, clearing way for changes in the top four. Ohio State stayed at two. The Buckeyes' Big Ten rival, Michigan moved up from five to three. TCU jumped three spots to No. 4, putting the nation's four unbeaten teams at the top of the rankings.Tennessee fell to No. 5 and was followed by Oregon from the Pac-12 and LSU, which jumped three spots to seventh after the Tigers knocked off Alabama. Clemson fell to 10th and A labama dropped from sixth to ninth after its second loss of the season. This is the first time since the College Football Playoff rankings began in 2014 that neither Clemson nor Alabama have been ranked in the top six. There has never been a College Foot ball Playoff without the Tigers and the Crimson Tide, which have combined to win five of the eight CFP championships. - AP College Football

Clemson coach Dabo Swinney is prepared to do what it takes to improve his struggling offense - even if that means benching starting quarterback DJ Uiagalelei for more than a series or two. Uiagalelei, a 6-foot-3, 235-pound junior, was removed from each o f the past two games, the last a demoralizing 35-14 loss at No. 20 Notre Dame last week that ended the undefeated start of the 12th-ranked Tigers (8-1, 6-0 Atlantic Coast Conference). Uiagalelei will start this week at home against Louisville (6-3, 3-3), Swinney said, but if he can't find his form from earlier this season, he won't stay in. "He has to play better and get back on track. That's the reality of the situation," Swinney said Tuesday. "We've watched every play with him. If you don't play bette r, someone else gets a chance." The past two games that's been five-star freshman backup Cade Klubnik, with mixed results.Uiagalelei left the Syracuse game on Oct. 22 in the third quarter after three turnovers and Clemson trailing 21-10. Klubnik s parked a fourth-quarter rally and a 27-21 victory that, combined with an upcoming bye week, was the perfect way for Uiagalelei and the Tigers' offense to refresh and regroup for the stretch run. Instead, Clemson played its worst game of the season in all phases - it had a punt blocked for a TD, Uiagalelei and Klubnik each threw interceptions leading to scores, and the Irish ran for 271 yards. Swinney said that's not all on Uiagalelei, who in 2020 threw for 439 yards at Notre Dame Stadium as a freshman i n his second career start. Uiagalelei "doesn't punt protect and he's not asked to stop the run," Swinney said. - AP College Football

Jordan Travis threw three touchdown passes, Trey Benson ran for 128 yards and two scores as Florida State became bowl-eligible with a 45-3 rout over Miami on Saturday night. The Seminoles (6-3, 4-3 Atlantic Coast Conference) outgained the Hurricanes (4-5 , 2-3) 456-188 and were never threatened after a 31-3 lead at halftime. Travis completed 10 of 12 passes for 202 yards before being removed early in the fourth quarter. Florida State exceeded 200 yards rushing for the fourth straight game with 225. Miami quarterback Tyler Van Dyke re-aggravated an injury to his right throwing shoulder early in the second quarter. Van Dyke, who first sustained the injury against Duke on Oct. 22 and missed the next game, favored his shoulder without contact after an incom plete pass. He returned for the next drive but left for good after another errant pass missed its target. It was the Hurricanes' fourth straight loss at home, their longest skid in a season since 1973. They also have not scored a touchdown in nine consecutive quarters. The Seminoles ended their first two drives on Travis' touchdown passes to Ontaria Wilson and DJ Lundy. Travis connected with Wilson for 56 yards 1:38 into the game, then found Lundy open in the end zone for a 2-yard score. Lundy, a linebacker, was utilized in the short-yardage situation. Benson's touchdown runs from 13 yards and 1 yard in the second quarter made it 28-3. The Hurricanes drove to the Florida State 2-yard line late in the third quarter but freshman quarterback Jacurri Brown failed to retrieve a poor snap from center that lost 23 yards with Jarred Verse recovering the ball for the Seminoles. Travis threw his third touchdown pass, an 8-yard completion to Camren McDonald on the first play of the fourth quarter. Andres B orregales capped the Hurricanes' opening drive of the game with a season-high 47-yard field goal. - Florida State/AP College Football
