SEPT 16 GLIAC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Jayru Campbell, Ferris State,...Ferris State University senior quarterback Jayru Campbell returned to the lineup in a big way, leading the #2 Bulldogs to a decisive 62-28 win over Central Washington in the NCAA Division II National Game of the Week on Saturday night in Ellensburg, Wash. Campbell and the Bulldogs won the longest trip in school history (2,039 miles) and beat a team which had taken FCS Idaho to the wire only the week before by compiling 627 yards of total offense.

Campbell threw for 271 yards on 17-of-29 passing for three scores while adding 42 rushing yards on 13 tries. His scoring throws included a key 72-yard TD pass to receiver Xavier Wade on the first play after CWU had trimmed a 20-point deficit down to only six points. It fueled a 28-point Bulldog fourth quarter run to put the game away. His play helped the Bulldogs compile 28 first downs and FSU finished 10-of-19 (53%) on third down conversions to move to 2-0 on the year. HONORABLE MENTION, OFFENSE: Austin Brenner (AU), Cashual Goldsmith (NU), Nate McCrary (SVSU), Will Ark (MTU). - Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Football

Alabama is No. 1 in The Associated Press college football poll for the first time this season, replacing preseason No. 1 Clemson after the Tigers had a close call. Alabama received 29 of 61 first-place votes Sunday from the media panel as the Tigers' one-point victory at North Carolina gave the AP Top 25 presented by Regions Bank the first shake-up at the top this season. Clemson slipped to No. 2 and received 18 first-place votes. The last time a No. 1 team won and dropped was Ohio State on Nov. 7, 2015, after the Buckeyes beat Minnesota 28-14 at home. It has happened 74 times previously since the poll started in 1936.

No. 3 Georgia received four first-place votes. Ohio State moved up to No. 4 and received seven first-place votes. LSU was No. 5 and Oklahoma sixth. No. 7 Auburn received three first-place votes. At the other end of the rankings, No. 24 SMU is ranked for the first time since the program received the so-called death penalty for NCAA rules violations in 1987 and did not compete for two seasons. Alabama has now been ranked No. 1 at some point in each of the last 12 seasons, extending its own record. The second-longest streak belongs to Miami, which had a string of seven consecutive seasons with an appearance at No. 1 from 1986-92. This is the 119th time Alabama has been No. 1, most of any school since the AP poll started in 1936, and the 88th time it has been top-ranked under coach Nick Saban since he took over in 2007. Only Ohio State, Oklahoma, Notre Dame and Southern California have more total appearances at No. 1 than Alabama has under Saban. - AP College Football

Quarterback Trae Self passed for 291 yards but it was running back Da'Leon Ward who threw the winning touchdown as Stephen F. Austin defeated Lamar 24-17 on Saturday night. Trailing for the first time in the game, Stephen F. Austin drove 75 yards in 1:29 and regained the lead when Ward hit Ryan Waugh with a 4-yard pass for the touchdown. Self ran for two points and a 24-17 lead for the Lumberjacks (1-4, 1-1 Southland). Lamar (2-3, 0-2) went ahead 17-16 when Jordan Hoy threw a 6-yard touchdown pass to Mason Sikes with 6:44 remaining. The Cardinals' other touchdown came via a 15-yard pick-6 by Kyron Norwood early in the fourth quarter. Hoy completed 19 of 36 passes for 203 yards and matched Myles Wanza with 54 yards for the team rushing lead. Ward led the Lumberjacks with 55 yards rushing with one touchdown. Storm Ruiz kicked three field goals for SFA. - AP College Football

The Temple defense forced three turnovers and recorded a 74-yard touchdown by safety Benny Walls during a 24-2 victory over Georgia Tech on Saturday. The Owls also generated 198 yards on the ground thanks in large part to Re'Mahn Davis, who had 29 carries for 135 yards and two touchdowns. Temple (3-1) spoiled the return of former head coach Geoff Collins, who posted a 15-10 record over two years as Owls coach before agreeing to take the head coaching job at Georgia Tech in December 2018. Collins was replaced by former Northern Illinois coach Rod Carey, who is 3-1 in his first four games at Temple.

Walls recorded two turnovers in the second half, including a 74-yard fumble recovery score on the opening drive of the second half to swell the Owls lead to 21-0. In the fourth quarter, he would intercept James Graham's pass in the end zone to halt the final legitimate threat for a Georgia Tech comeback. Georgia Tech (1-3) got its only score on a third quarter safety on a tackle of Davis following a 1-yard loss in the end zone. - Temple/AP College Football

Jason Hughes kicked three field goals and Evan Gray put the finishing touches on New Hampshire's 23-6 victory over Duquesne with a 72-yard fourth-quarter touchdown run on Saturday. The Wildcats came within 58 seconds of notching their first shutout of the season, but Daniel Parr connected with Kareem Coles Jr. for a 12-yard TD to provide the final margin of victory. Hughes started the scoring for the Wildcats (2-2) when he capped an eight-play, 42-yard drive with a 45-yard field goal at the 11:16 mark of the first quarter. Dylan Laube's 6-yard TD run with 15 seconds left in the quarter put New Hampshire up 10-0.

Hughes added a 39-yard field goal in the second quarter and a 38-yarder in the third to put the Wildcats up 16-0. New Hampshire put the game out of reach when Pop Lacey picked off a Parr pass at the Wildcats' 43-yard line. An unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on Lacey pushed the ball back 15 yards, but Gray broke loose for a TD on the next play. Brosmer completed 17 of 31 passes for 202 yards, while Gray finished with 99 yards on 10 carries. Parr was 14-of-32 passing for 183 yards and two interceptions. New Hampshire had 433 yards of offense and held the Dukes (2-2) to 233, including just 50 yards on 23 carries on the ground. - AP College Football
