There were no major surprises in the roster transition, save one - running back Alec Sinkfield is no longer a Mountaineer. The 5-foot-9, 193-pound junior from Boynton Beach, Florida, entered the transfer portal Friday morning, and his days at WVU have apparently come to an end. Sinkfield was second on the team in rushing this past season, netting 327 yards, which was second behind Leddie Brown's 1,010. But the Oregon State safety's career has come to a premature end. Morris has medically retired from college football, school officials confirmed on Wednesday. Morris, a redshirt junior, played 24 games for the Beavers and made 14 starts during parts of four seasons and earned received all-Pac-12 honorable mention honors as a true freshman. But injuries left him sidelined during portions of each of the last three seasons. The Cincinnati, Ohio, native played three seasons for the Fighting Illini. Prior to opting out of the 2020 season due to COVID-19 concerns, he accumulated 822 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns over three seasons and was the Illini's second leading rusher in 2018. Bonner had a breakout performance in 2018 against Iowa with 96 rushing yards on 21 carries. Junior quarterback Rocky Lombardi and junior running back Clint Ratkovich both enrolled at NIU for the spring semester and participated in team workouts that started this week after the Huskies finished their season winless. Ratkovich joins NIU from the not-so-distant Western Illinois University, where he was named to the All-Missouri Valley Conference First-Team twice. On 97 collegiate rushing attempts, the Crete native has 429 yards and three touchdowns. While he plays running back, Ratkovich might be at his most dangerous when lined up as a receiver. Ratkovich has been the Leathernecks leader in receptions the past two seasons, amassing 128 catches for 1,204 yards and 10 touchdowns over his time with WIU. Hammock describes the superback Ratkovich as a chess piece that can be used in many different ways for his offense. "What stands out is his versatility," Hammock said. Ross is coming back to Clemson after missing this past season due to a congenital fusion in his spine. The senior inside linebacker announced Thursday morning he's returning to school for an extra season and will be back with the Huskers for 2021. Honas is coming off his best collegiate season and will look to build on it thanks to the extra season of eligibility granted by the NCAA due to the coronavirus pandemic. The Wichita, Kansas, native played in seven of NU's eight games in 2020 and finished second on the team in tackles with 57.
