06/27/21 - CB Jeremy Webb, rSr/2022, Kansas + More +   A former reserve defensive back at Virginia Tech who most recently started at Missouri State, Jeremy Webb announced Saturday night he's transferring to Kansas. "Let's work," Webb posted to Twitter, along with a graphic that featured the Jayhawks' logo, photos of the cornerback and the word "committed" in all caps. Listed on the Missouri State roster at 6-foot-4 and 205 pounds for his recently completed senior season, Webb entered his name in the NCAA's transfer portal as a graduate transfer in early June. While playing in 10 games in an FCS season that began in the fall of 2020 and wrapped up this spring, Webb recorded three interceptions, was credited with six pass breakups and totaled 38 tackles for the Bears, who were the Missouri Valley Football Conference co-champions. Webb told Jon Kirby of Jayhawk Slant he also considered transferring to Boston College and SMU before picking Kansas. "Ultimately it just really came down to the coaches and pretty much how they have been recruiting me really hard," Webb told Jayhawk Slant of his thinking, adding what the staff laid out seemed like "the best situation possible and the best fit." Added the veteran cornerback: "I wanted to get in and help change the program around." 06/07/21 - SS Chris Moore, rSr/2022, Georgia State + More +   Safety Chris Moore is one of seven "super seniors" who are back for more, taking advantage of the extra year of eligibility granted by the NCAA due to the pandemic. The Ashburn, Va., native made an immediate impact at GSU as a starting safety with 34 tackles, one tackle for loss, three pass breakups and a forced fumble. Moore had one of his best games in the LendingTree Bowl win over WKU with five tackles and two pass breakups to help the defense allow a season-low 284 yards of total offense. Another top performance came at Appalachian State, when he made a season-high eight tackles as the GSU defense held the Mountaineers to their season low of 310 total yards. In another strong defensive effort at South Alabama, Moore forced a fumble that the Panthers recovered. 06/03/21 - FB Brant Kuithe, rSr/2025, Utah + More +   No one would have batted an eyelash if Brant Kuithe opted to leave the University of Utah following the 2020 season. The 6-foot-2, 230-pound tight end had a team-best 25 catches for 236 yards, while leading all Pac-12 tight ends in receptions per game (5.0). He has led the team in catches among tight ends in each of his three seasons, the last two of which have yielded All-Pac-12 second-team honors. In 33 career games, Kuithe has 79 catches for 1,065 yards and seven touchdowns. Kuithe has clearly been on an NFL track for at least the two seasons, so no, no one would have even shrugged if Kuithe opted against one more college season and instead entered the NFL draft. The thing is, a truncated, COVID-impacted, five-game season last fall was not enough for Kuithe to go out on, so he didn't. "I had a decent season, but we only won three games," Kuithe said during spring practice in early April, roughly three months after the Katy, Texas, native announced on New Year's Day that he would return for the 2021 season. 06/03/21 - RB Chez Mellusi, rSr/2025, Wisconsin + More +   The University of Wisconsin running backs room got a lift when former Clemson running back Chez Mellusi tweeted that he was transferring to the Badgers program. He'll have immediate eligibility in 2021 and have three years of eligibility remaining. The four-star prospect from Naples, Florida, played for two years at Clemson before jumping into the transfer portal. He was in Madison for an official visit Tuesday. Listed at 5-foot-11 and 200 pounds, Mellusi's arrival comes at a time when the Badgers don't have a clear depth chart at running back, particularly after a spring season when Jalen Berger, Isaac Guerendo and Julius Davis were significantly limited by injuries, giving junior Brady Schipper (four carries in 2020) the bulk of the spring work. The Ragin' Cajuns have made Alabama State transfer Michael Jefferson a late member of their 2021 signing class, coach Billy Napier said Wednesday. Jefferson - a product of Murphy High in Mobile, Alabama - reported this week along with other players for the start of summer of workouts. All players reported as expected, according to Napier. Jefferson played three seasons at Alabama State, an FCS program in the SWAC. "He's got a lot of height and length," Napier said. "He's been very productive. He's not only a good receiver, but a good special teams player." 06/01/21 - SS Devon Hunter, rSr/2022, Virginia Tech + More +   Virginia Tech announced Tuesday that safety Devon Hunter has been reinstated to the football team. Hunter was suspended in September after he was arrested on charges of felony strangulation to cause wound or injury and misdemeanor assault against a family member. The felony was amended to a misdemeanor when Hunter pleaded guilty in Montgomery County Circuit Court on May 4. He was convicted of the two misdemeanors and sentenced to 24 months in jail, but the jail time was suspended to one day on each charge, and two years probation. According to Tech's student-athlete code of conduct, an athlete with a felony charge can't be reinstated until, "until the charges are dropped, dismissed or otherwise resolved." 05/30/21 - WR Broc Thompson, rSr/2024, Purdue + More +   Last season, Broc Thompson changed his number at Marshall from 88 to 13 to honor his younger brother, Cade, a young promising receiver who was battling cancer. Broc Thompson is now changing his location to be closer to his family. Thompson announced Saturday he's transferring to Purdue to join coach Jeff Brohm's program. The 6-foot-2, 188-pound receiver from Indianapolis entered his name into the NCAA transfer portal on Friday. As a sophomore for the Thundering Herd, Thompson caught 14 passes for 228 yards last season. For his career, the Ben Davis graduate made 33 catches for 562 yards. He'll bring experience to the Boilermakers' receiving group, which features David Bell, Milton Wright, T.J. Sheffield, Jackson Anthrop and Mershawn Rice. 05/30/21 - WR Broc Thompson, rSr/2024, Purdue + More +   Marshall football lost its second wide receiver in two days to the NCAA transfer portal. On Friday, Thundering Herd sophomore wide receiver Broc Thompson announced his intentions to transfer on social media. "After much consideration, prayer and consultation with my family, I announce with a heavy heart that I will be entering into the transfer portal," Thompson said. "Thank you to all of the coaches, staff, and community of marshall for believing in me! The 75 will live forever in my heart! God Bless." Thompson and his family suffered through the toughest of years in 2020. After going without football due to COVID-19 until summer conditioning, Thompson finally saw some light at the end of the tunnel as the Herd got back on campus in June in preparation for drills to start later in summer. In mid-July, though, his whole world changed as his little brother, Cade, was diagnosed with cancer. Thompson briefly left the team to be with family before returning for drills in August. When he returned, he donned the No. 13 in honor of Cade, who was a standout young receiver prospect at Ben Davis High School in Indianapolis. 05/27/21 - OT JaChai Baker, rSr/2022, South Alabama + More +   South Alabama dipped into the FCS ranks for an offensive line transfer on Tuesday, getting a commitment from tackle Ja'Chai Baker of Southeast Missouri. The 6-foot-6, 314-pound Baker played in 19 games for the Redhawks the last two seasons, starting 14 at left tackle. SEMO, a member of the Ohio Valley Conference, completed its 2020-21 season on April 11. Baker, originally from Omaha, Neb., began his college career as a defensive tackle at Wyoming in 2016. He transferred a year later to Iowa Western Community College, where he moved to offensive tackle and was a second-team all-conference pick in 2018, before signing with SEMO. Baker was a fifth-year senior in 2020, but will have one season remaining at South Alabama. The NCAA granted an additional year of eligibility to all Division I athletes amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Baker joins a South Alabama offensive line transfer class that also includes Antawn Lewis (Louisiana Tech), James Jackson (Mississippi State), Anterrious Gray (North Texas) and Justin Stevens (Michigan State). 05/24/21 - WR *John Metchie III, Jr/2022, Alabama + More +   Alabama football has earned yet another accolade from the 2020 undefeated championship season. Junior receiver John Metchie III has received the Jon Cornish Trophy, given to the top Canadian in NCAA football after he became the first Canadian of an NCAA national champion in 17 years. Metchie, from Brampton, Ontario, got 94 votes. He edged out Oklahoma State's Amen Ogbongbemiga who received 91 votes. The next closest, Tennessee's Joshua Palmer, picked up 66 votes. Metchie caught six touchdown passes in 2020 with 55 total catches for 916 yards. Leota only played in eight games for the Wildcats in 2021 - he did not play against Auburn in the Vrbo Citrus Bowl - but he still managed to be the team's leader in sacks (4) and was fourth in tackles for loss (5.5). The 6-foot-4, 250-pound Leota comes to Auburn with a chance to start right away. While Derick Hall seems to have a firm grasp on one of the starting EDGE positions, the other one appears up for grabs. 05/23/21 - OG Justice Oluwaseun, rSr/2023, Miami + More +   The Miami Hurricanes are getting another big body. UNLV offensive lineman Justice Oluwaseun, who previously played for Miami offensive line coach Garin Justice when Justice coached at UNLV, announced Saturday that he is transferring to the Hurricanes. He chose UM over schools that included Baylor and Houston. Oluwaseun, 6-3 and 325 pounds, has played both sides at tackle as well as guard. He started UNLV's six games in 2020 at right tackle. In 2019, he started 11 games. This will be his second redshirt junior year because the NCAA allowed all players to maintain their eligibility status in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.
