Kobe Pace ran for a career-high 191 yards and two touchdowns as Clemson won its 13th straight over No. 13 Wake Forest, delaying the Demon Deacons' run to the ACC Atlantic title with a 48-27 victory Saturday. Will Shipley gained 112 yards with two touchdo wns and also threw a 2-yard jump pass TD to Davis Allen for the Tigers (8-3, 6-2 Atlantic Coast Conference), who won their 34th straight at home. Clemson also kept its hopes of a seventh straight trip to the ACC title game alive with the stunning rout of Wake Forest (9-2, 6-1). The Demon Deacons entered the game averaging 44.7 points and 498 yards a game. They left with a season low in points and had only 36 yards rushing.With time running out, chants of "Over-Rated," rang out through Death Valle y, where Wake Forest has not won since 1998. Fans filled the field at the end, the school reinstating its long-held tradition it first suspended in 2020 because of the pandemic. Still, Wake Forest remains in the divisional driver's seat and can make its first championship game appearance in 15 years by beating Boston College next Saturday. For the Tigers to reach the title game, they would need Wake Forest to lose to BC and have No. 25 North Carolina lose one of its final two games. Clemson, at last, lo oked the part of the ACC preseason favorite as it battered Wake Forest and quarterback Sam Hartman. Hartman was sacked seven times and threw an interception. The Deacons also fumbled twice, both leading to Clemson touchdowns. Hartman finished with 312 ya rds and a fourth-quarter touchdown with Wake trailing by 22 points. Tyrell Robinson ran for an 87-yard touchdown and finished with 137 of Army's 377 rushing yards as the Black Knights ran over UMass, 33-17 on Saturday. Army had 10 players with at least one carry and got touchdown runs from four different backs. After UMa ss took a 3-0 lead midway through the first quarter on a Cameron Carson 45-yard field goal, Army answered when Robinson took the pitch in the backfield, got a block on the corner and raced 87 yards untouched to the end zone. Wilson Catoe scored from thre e-yards out to cap a 10-play drive and a 16-3 Army lead with 13:30 left in the second quarter. Garrett Dzuro tossed a five-yard pass to Jacob Orlando to pull UMass within a touchdown at 16-10, but Cole Talley booted a 33-yard field goal as time expired i n the first half for a 19-10 lead. Jordan Travis threw for three touchdowns and 251 yards and Florida State stopped Boston College in their own territory in the final two minutes for a 26-23 victory on Saturday. A week after rallying from an eight-point deficit in the final five minutes f or a victory over rival Miami, the Seminoles (5-6, 4-4 Atlantic Coast Conference) rolled to a 23-point lead before holding on to move a victory away from becoming bowl eligible. Travis completed 20-of-34 passes with no interceptions, connecting with thre e different receivers for scores.Coming off his five-touchdown day last Saturday in a victory at Georgia Tech — three rushing and two throwing — BC QB Phil Jurkovec went 10 of 24 for 148 yards with a TD and one INT. He carried 17 times for 59 yards with a score. Pat Garwo III had a scoring run for the Eagles (6-5, 2-5). The Seminoles led 19-3 at halftime and scored on the initial drive of the second half when Malik McClain made a leaping grab of Travis' pass in the back of the end zone. BC th en scored two TDs — failing on a two-point conversion on the first — in just over 3 ½ minutes early in the fourth, slicing it to 26-23 on Jurkovec's 36-yard TD pass to Zay Flowers. Clint Ratkovich ran for two touchdowns and his 25-yard jaunt in overtime carried Northern Illinois past Buffalo 33-27 in overtime Wednesday night. Ratkovich's score was the only offensive play the Huskies (8-3, 6-1 Mid-American Conference) needed in the overtime. Buffalo (4-7, 2-5) took the ball to the Northern Illinois 1-yard line in eight plays, but Matt Myers fumbled at the goal line and Demond Taylor Jr. recovered for the Huskies.The Huskies' needed the extra session after John Richardson mis sed a 37-yard field goal as time expired. Buffalo tied it at 27 when Alex McNulty made a 55-yard field goal with 1:10 remaining. Rocky Lombardi threw for 197 yards for Northern Illinois, Trayvon Rudolph ran for 94 yards on three carries and scored once a nd Ratkovich ran for 75 yards. Rudolph's 75-yard scoring run with 5:17 before halftime pulled the Huskies into a tie at 10. NOV 15 CONFERENCE USA DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Old Dominion LB Jason Henderson had a team and career-high 12 tackles, a half a tackle-for-loss, a fumble recovery and a blocked extra point in Old Dominion's third consecutive win, this time over Flori da Atlantic. His fumble recovery set up a field goal that gave ODU a 20-10 lead early in the fourth quarter. When the Owls cut the lead to 20-16 later in the final stanza, Henderson blocked the extra point and it was returned for two points to give ODU a 22-16 lead, a key shift in the game for the Monarchs, who held on to the 30-16 win over Florida Atlantic. - Conference USA Football

Clemson coach Dabo Swinney said leading receiver Justyn Ross will have surgery to fix the stress fracture in his foot then get ready for the NFL draft. Ross will miss Saturday's game against Wake Forest and the season-ending rivalry contest at South Caro lina on Nov. 27. Swinney said Wednesday he wasn't sure if Ross would be ready to play in a bowl game, "but he'll be ready to train and do what he needs to do for the (NFL) combine." Ross had the option to play for the Tigers in 2022, but Swinney said he has chosen the NFL. "He doesn't need another season here," Swinney said. "He's going pro." Ross has 46 catches for 514 yards and three touchdowns. He first gained attention as a freshman when he had three catches for 153 yards, including a 74-yard touchd own reception in Clemson's 44-16 national championship victory over Alabama to end the 2018 season. - AP College Football

2021 MIAA DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR (COACHES): Sam Roberts, Defensive End – Northwest Missouri,...Sam Roberts claimed the association's 2021 Defensive Player of the Year honor by leading the Northwest Missouri defesne to the top of the league ranks. The senior defensive lineman led the Bearcats with 12.5 tackles for loss to rank fourth in the MIAA while his five sacks tied for fifth. Roberts finished regular season competition with 44 total tackles for a loss of 59 yards. He was also credited with two quarterback hurries on the year. Georgia, Alabama, Oregon and Ohio State held their places in the College Football Playoff ranking Tuesday, with Cincinnati still sitting at fifth. There was no movement in the selection committee's top seven after all those teams won last week. Michigan was still No. 6 and Michigan State seventh, heading into the Spartans' big game Saturday at Ohio State. Notre Dame moved up a spot to eighth. Oklahoma State (9-1) is now the highest-ranked Big 12 team at ninth after Oklahoma was handed its first loss las t week. Wake Forest (9-1) is No. 10, the highest-ranked team from the Atlantic Coast Conference with three rankings left until selection Sunday. In the seven-year history of the College Football Playoff, no team has come from farther back than ninth to r each the final four with two rankings remaining before selection Sunday. Clemson will be without leading receiver Justyn Ross for this week's game with No. 13 Wake Forest with a foot injury Tigers coach Dabo Swinney said on Tuesday that Ross will need surgery on his foot. Swinney said Ross had been dealing with stress facture in his foot throughout the season. The coach added, "Amazing that he's been able to play 10 games." Clemson (7-3, 5-2 Atlantic Coast Conference) closes its home season Saturday against the Demon Deacons (9-1, 6-0), who can clinch the ACC Atlantic Divisi on with a victory. Ross is the latest key offensive player to miss time for the Tigers this season following offensive line starter Matt Bockhorst and tight end Braden Galloway, who are both out with season-ending injuries. Swinney said Ross will need a screw in his foot. Florida State delivered a comeback that belongs among the great down-to-the-wire finishes in the history of the rivalry with Miami. And Mike Norvell has a signature win to continue building the Seminoles' foundation. Jordan Travis completed a fourth-and- 14 pass to Andrew Parchment and two plays later ran it in from 1 yard out with 26 seconds to go as Florida State defeated Miami 31-28 on Saturday.Trailing 28-23 and taking over at the Seminoles' 20-yard line, Travis dropped back and connected with Ja'Khi Douglas on a 59-yard catch-and-run. After two incompletions and a false start, Travis connected with Parchment on the 24-yard reception to the goal line. "Wow, what a game," Norvell said. "So proud of our team. The coaches, everybody involved in the program. The work, the investment, responding to adversity. The way that we work. Everything that we do within our program is there to prepare you for a moment like that...It's been a challenging road. We've had some real ups and downs. But these kid s, they've just continued to work, they've continued to believe." Florida State (4-6, 3-4 Atlantic Coast Conference) has had a roller-coaster season, beginning 0-4 before winning three straight and then dropping two in a row. Cameron Rising's long hair was still dripping wet at the postgame press conference, 30 minutes after the final whistle, giving an indication of a bruising, physical afternoon in the desert. His Utah Utes had earned a victory. It was far more difficult th an expected. "It's not about how pretty it looks," Rising said. "It's not about having glitz and glamour, it's about getting the job done and that's what we did here today." Rising threw for 294 yards and two touchdowns, T.J. Pledger ran for 119 yards an d two touchdowns, and Utah maintained its lead in the Pac-12 South by beating Arizona 38-29 on Saturday.It was a hard-earned win for the Utes (7-3, 6-1 Pac-12, No. 24 CFP). Arizona led for part of the first half and kept the game tight all afterno on. Rising's perfectly placed 17-yard touchdown pass to Dalton Kincaid in the back corner of the end zone late in the third quarter gave the Utes a 31-20 lead and some semblance of control in the back-and-forth game. It didn't last long. Arizona (1-9, 1- 6) responded with a field goal to cut the advantage to 31-23 and then the Wildcats scored again when Nazar Bombata blocked a Utah punt and Rhedi Short recovered before scoring a 3-yard touchdown to pull within 31-29 with about 10:30 left. The Wildcats' t wo-point conversion to tie was unsuccessful. Utah finally closed the game with a methodical 15-play, 75-yard drive that lasted more than eight minutes. It was capped by Pledger's 2-yard touchdown run with 2:10 left. "We knew it was going to be a physical , 60-minute fight," Pledger said. "That's exactly what we got." Utah's offense was the difference-maker once again. The Utes have scored at least 34 points in five straight games.
