Jacksonville State finished 6-for-6 in the red zone. The Gamecocks (2-2) broke through late in the first with a seven-play, 75-yard touchdown drive, then stacked 17 second-quarter points for a 24-3 halftime lead. A fourth-quarter drive of 72 yards capped the scoring.

Denis Lynch kicked a game-winning 48-yard field goal with seven seconds remaining to send San Jose State past Idaho, 31-28 on Saturday. The Spartans (1-2) avoided their fourth loss to an FCS team in program history, while the Vandals (2-2), ranked eighth in the FCS coaches poll, will go without an FBS win for the first time in three seasons. After trading touchdowns on four straight drives the San Jose State defense finally forced a three-and-out for the only punt of the second half. The Spartans then drove 31 yards in eight plays for the winning kick.

Jabari Bates had a career-high 131 rushing yards on 11 carries with an 87-yard scoring rush that put the Spartans on the board one snap after Idaho took a 14-0 lead midway through the second quarter. The junior had never reached 100 rushing yards in his collegiate career. Walker Eget completed 13 of his 21 passes for 222 yards and a touchdown, and Danny Scudero hauled in six catches for 130 yards. Joshua Wood was 18-for-32 with 204 yards and two touchdowns for Idaho. He added 41 yards and a score on the ground. - San Jose State/AP College Football

Justice Haynes rushed for 149 yards and broke one of No. 21 Michigan's three long touchdown runs in a 30-27 win over Nebraska on Saturday, extending the Cornhuskers' losing streak against Top 25 opponents to 28 games. Freshman Bryce Underwood, who struggled in a road loss at Oklahoma two weeks ago, was just 12-of-22 passing for 105 yards in his first Big Ten road game but scored the Wolverines' first touchdown on a 37-yard run and extended his team's last scoring drive with a key third-down pass and a scramble. "He did everything he had to do to win, which is the maturity he might not have had at Oklahoma," said Biff Poggi, acting head coach in place of the suspended Sherrone Moore. Dylan Raiola's 52-yard Hail Mary to Jacory Barney Jr. for a touchdown to end the first half tied it 17-all and gave the Cornhuskers (3-1, 0-1 Big Ten) momentum heading into the third quarter.

They managed just a field goal after that until Raiola led them on a 75-yard drive to make it a three-point game with 1:34 left. Michigan (3-1, 1-0) recovered the onside kick, picked up a first down and ran out the clock. The Wolverines rushed for 286 yards, the most against Nebraska since Oklahoma ran for 312 in 2022. "Just too many big plays to win a football game like that," Nebraska coach Matt Rhule said. "We battled, and I appreciate that from the guys. It wasn't enough." The Wolverines went into the fourth quarter with a 27-17 lead after Dominic Zvada kicked a 56-yard field goal and Jordan Marshall busted through the line to go 54 yards for a touchdown. Zvada's 21-yard field goal gave the Wolverines a 10-point lead again with under 4 minutes to play. Michigan had two one-play touchdown drives, with Underwood breaking his 37-yard run after a Nebraska turnover and Haynes going 75 yards untouched to the end zone. Raiola was 30 of 41 for 308 yards and three touchdowns, the first quarterback to throw for 300 yards against Michigan since Purdue's Aidan O'Connell in 2022. Raiola threw his first interception of the season and was sacked seven times as Michigan defensive coordinator Wink Martindale sent blitzes from a variety of angles. - Michigan/AP College Football

Caleb Hawkins rushed for four touchdowns including the game-winner in overtime and North Texas beat Army 45-38 on Saturday in an American Conference opener. Hawkins' 3-yard score put the Mean Green in front and Army (1-2, 0-2) failed to counter after Dewayne Coleman, who took over at quarterback in the second quarter after Cale Hellums had three turnovers, left with an apparent leg injury on the Black Knights' second OT play. Hellums reentered the game and reached the UNT 9 before an incomplete fourth-down pass.

Army had a chance to win in regulation after Coleman threw a 68-yard TD pass to Brady Anderson with three minutes left and the Black Knights' recovered a fumble on the first play after a failed onside kick. Army reached the UNT 6 with a first down but had to settle for a tying field goal with nine seconds remaining. Hellums lost two fumbles and was intercepted in the first half before Coleman took over with the Black Knights trailing 21-7 midway through the second quarter. Hawkins' third TD run was a 21-yarder with nine minutes left for a 38-28 lead. He finished with 99 yards on 14 carries. Makenzie McGill II added 101 yards on 19 carries with a TD. Drew Mestemaker was 26-of-36 passing for 249 yards and a TD. Coleman was 6-of-11 passing for 101 yards and two scores and rushed for 117 yards on 23 carries and another touchdown. Hayden Reed rushed for 113 yards and a score on 23 carries and Briggs Bartosh had 99 yards including a 75-yard score. UNT is 4-0 for the first time since 2018. Army won all eight of its conference games last season. - North Texas/AP College Football

No. 19 Indiana has lost running back Lee Beebe Jr. to a season-ending knee injury, coach Curt Cignetti told reporters Monday. Beebe suffered a noncontact injury during Friday night's 73-0 rout of Indiana State. The transfer from UAB was leading the team in yards per carry at 7.7 through three games and was second in yards rushing with 209 on 27 carries. He also ran for one score and had one reception for 7 yards. Losing Beebe likely means Roman Hemby, the transfer from Maryland, and Kaelon Black will carry a heavier workload starting this week when the Hoosiers (3-0) face their toughest test yet when they host No. 9 Illinois (3-0) in the Big Ten Conference opener for both teams. Indiana is 11-0 at home in Cignetti's two seasons. - AP College Football

UCLA fired second-year football coach DeShaun Foster on Sunday after the school's first 0-3 start since 2019. Athletic director Martin Jarmond announced the move two days after the Bruins lost to New Mexico 35-10, their second straight loss to a Mountain West Conference opponent. "It's not a decision I made lightly, but it was important to take decisive action," Jarmond said on a Zoom call with media. "This serves as a message to our fans that the results we've seen so far are simply not acceptable." Tim Skipper will serve as interim coach for the rest of the season, which includes games against three highly ranked Big Ten Conference opponents. Skipper had been special assistant to Foster, and he served as Fresno State's interim coach last year. Foster was 5-10 since taking over the program from Chip Kelly in February 2024, after national signing day and relatively late in the recruiting process. "I regret putting DeShaun in that position as we were going into the Big Ten," Jarmond said. "Getting a start so late really disadvantaged the start of his coaching career."

Last year, the Bruins finished 5-7 after a 1-5 start in the school's first season in the Big Ten. Foster had been the program's running backs coach from 2017-23 and added the title of associate head coach in 2023 before being promoted to the top job by Jarmond. Foster spent one season on the staff at Texas Tech. The Bruins were beaten by Utah in their opener and by UNLV a week ago. They trailed at halftime in all three losses, two of them coming at the Rose Bowl, where attendance was sparse and tarps are used to cover wide swaths of seating. Foster was asked Friday if he was still the person for the job, and he replied: "Most definitely. Because I can get these boys to play." However, even the arrival of highly touted quarterback Nico Iamaleava via the transfer portal couldn't save Foster. The sophomore left Tennessee after leading the Volunteers to the College Football Playoff last season and didn't participate in spring camp. - AP College Football
