Jordan Travis threw for 418 yards and two touchdowns and No. 13 Florida State beat Oklahoma 35-32 on Thursday night in the Cheez-It Bowl. Johnny Wilson made a one-handed grab for a 58-yard gain to set up Ryan Fitzgerald's 32-yard field goal with 55 seconds left. The Seminoles (10-3) held on, sacking quarterback Dillon Gabriel on the Sooners' comeback bid. Jovante Barnes tied it at 32 for Oklahoma (6-7) with 3:37 left on a 12-yard run. That was after Travis fired a 17-yard pass to tight end Markeston Douglas in the end zone to put the Seminoles up 32-25 midway through the fourth. The Seminoles had gotten the ball off an Oklahoma fumble. Treshaun Ward's 1-yard rushing touchdown late in the third quarter gave the Seminoles an 18-17 lead - their first advantage since leading 3-0 in the opening quarter. Travis converted two third downs to guide Florida's State 94 yards on the 15-play drive.

The Sooners went up 25-18 with 13:22 left on 25-yard run by freshman Gavin Sawchuk and a successful 2-point conversion. Florida State needed just two minutes to go 75 yards to tie it at 25, with Ward taking the ball 38 yards into the end zone for his second touchdown of the game. Florida State won its first bowl since the 2017 season, and its first under coach Mike Norvell. Travis, who has already announced his intention to return to the team for the 2023 season, became the 11th player in program history to pass for 3,000-plus yards in a season. Treshaun Ward had 81 yards on 10 carries for Florida State, and Wilson had a season-high 202 yards on eight catches. The Seminoles won their final five games of the regular season, scoring at least 38 points in all of them. Florida State was 5-3 in conference play with its first winning season since 2017, which also was Jimbo Fisher's last year coaching the team before taking the head coaching job at Texas A&M. - Florida State/AP College Football

Much has been made about Alabama stars Bryce Young and Will Anderson choosing to play in the Sugar Bowl later this week against Kansas State when most other elite NFL Draft prospects are deciding to "opt out" of postseason games. But let's not forget that the Wildcats have some future NFL prospects on their roster, too. No one would have blamed Felix Anudike-Uzomah, in particular, for skipping this game and focusing on his future as a professional athlete. The junior K-State defensive end was named Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year after piling up 44 tackles and sacking opposing quarterbacks 8 1/2 times this season. At 6-foot-4 and 225 pounds, he is one of the most difficult edge rushers to block in all of college football.

Anudike-Uzomah will hear his name called in the 2023 NFL Draft if he decides to declare early as a junior, or in 2024, if he chooses to return to college for one more year. For now, he is torn on when he should make the leap. "I haven't really decided that yet," Anudike-Uzomah said Wednesday. "I'm still talking with my parents about it, just to make sure I finalize things and make the right decision on what I'm going to do. "Right now, I really want to focus on this. If you ask me questions about it after the game I can probably give you a better answer. But I'm still not 100% sure on it." - The Kansas City Star

On Tuesday, veteran Perris Jones, who started eight times at the position this past fall, announced on Twitter he'll play a sixth season with the Cavaliers in 2023. "When I set foot on campus," Jones wrote, "I had a set of goals that I planned on accomplishing. While I have been blessed to accomplish the basics, I still have some goals on the table that need to be crossed off. With that being said, I would like to announce that I will be returning to UVa, exercising my last year of eligibility." In August, Jones emerged as UVa's top running back option during training camp to earn the team's starting job.

Before this past season, Jones, a former walk-on, had only registered three career carries and was briefly moved - out of necessity - to defensive back in 2021, but his work ethic and understanding of Cavaliers coach Tony Elliott's offense propelled Jones forward to make an impact on the 2022 squad at his natural position. Jones ran 81 times for 365 yards and a pair of touchdowns and also hauled in six catches for 43 yards and two more scores this past season. He had standout performances against Richmond and at Syracuse. Versus the Spiders, he racked up 104 rushing yards and a touchdown along with a receiving touchdown, and against the Orange, he ran for 87 yards and a score. - Charlottesville Daily Progress

Coastal Carolina quarterback Grayson McCall, the three-time Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year who entered the transfer portal this month but remained with the Chanticleers for the Birmingham Bowl, was injured Tuesday night in a 53-29 loss to East Carolina. On what will presumably be McCall's final play in a Coastal Carolina uniform, the quarterback authored a 9-yard touchdown run. He was hit while tumbling into the end zone and never returned to the game. Coastal Carolina lost coach Jamey Chadwell to Liberty and hired North Carolina State offensive coordinator Tim Beck to lead the program. Don't be surprised if McCall winds up at Liberty when he exits the portal. - News Observer

Starting defensive back Greg Brooks is coming back to LSU for one more season, he announced Friday. A versatile piece of the secondary, Brooks finished fourth on the team with 61 tackles. He also recorded two tackles for loss and one interception, which sealed LSU's 21-17 win over Auburn. Brooks, a Harvey native, began his career at Arkansas. He transferred to LSU after three seasons and instantly became a starter.

After opening the season at nickel, Brooks moved back to safety and established himself as a vital defender. He has one more year of eligibility. Brooks became the Tigers' third draft-eligible player this month to announce they were passing on the NFL draft. Wide receiver Kayshon Boutte and quarterback Jayden Daniels also returned to LSU. - Baton Rouge Advocate

According to multiple reports, quarterback D.J. Uiagalelei is expected to sign with Oregon State after entering the transfer portal following his third season at Clemson. The news was first reported Friday night by Pete Thamel of ESPN. Uiagalelei announced he was entering the portal on social media but has not yet posted any announcement of where he plans to enroll. Thamel reported that Uiagalelei is expected to make his decision official in the coming days.

Uiagalelei started two games as a freshman at Clemson before taking over the starting role as a sophomore and leading the Tigers to a 10-3 record. As a junior, he started 13 games before being benched during the ACC championship game against North Carolina. Following that game he entered the transfer portal. His overall record as a starter is 21-6. During his career at Clemson, Uiagalelei completed 60% of his passes for 5,681 yards and 36 touchdowns with 17 interceptions. He also scored 15 rushing touchdowns. - Gazette Times

The worst-kept secret on the Southside is now out and in the ether. UAB junior running back DeWayne McBride will forgo his senior season at UAB, declaring for the 2023 NFL Draft today on his social media accounts. McBride was a first-team All-C-USA selection, earning three player of the week awards this season, and named C-USA Offensive Player of the Year after finishing the regular season with a nation-leading 1,713 rushing yards, breaking UAB's single-season rushing record previously held by Jordan Howard, and scored 19 touchdowns to break Spencer Brown's previous record of 16 touchdowns in 2018.

He led the nation in yards per game (155.7) and rushes of more than 20 yards (23) and broke Howard's single-game rushing record with a 272-yard performance in the season finale at LA Tech. The NCAA active career leader in yards per carry (7.3), McBride was the focal point of a unit ranked fifth in the nation in rushing offense (243.8 ypg). He led the Blazers to a school-record 2,925 rushing yards during the regular season and set single-season program records in yards per carry (7.35), 100-yard games (10), 200-yard games (3), total points (118) and multi-touchdown games (5). - Birmingham Post Herald

Former Wisconsin quarterback Graham Mertz is transferring to Florida, giving the Gators an experienced starter at a depleted position. Mertz announced his commitment on social media Wednesday. He is expected to enroll at the Southeastern Conference school in January. A three-year starter at Wisconsin, Mertz left the program after the Badgers hired former Cincinnati coach Luke Fickell to head its program. He joins a Florida team that lost Anthony Richardson to the NFL draft and dismissed backup Jalen Kitna following his arrest on child pornography charges. Third-stringer Jack Miller started the Las Vegas Bowl against Oregon State and threw for 180 yards and was sacked four times in a 30-3 loss.

The Gators signed four-star quarterback prospect Jaden Rashada on Wednesday as a potential starter in 2023 and could mine the transfer portal for more help at the all-important position, where Florida lost Richardson, Kitna, Emory Jones and Carlos Del Rio-Wilson in a nine-month span. Mertz threw five touchdown passes to help Wisconsin beat Illinois 45-7 in his first career start, setting a school single-game record for completion percentage and tying the school single-game record for TD tosses. But he struggled with consistency the rest of his time with the Badgers. Wisconsin had a different offensive coordinator each of his three seasons as a starter. Mertz has completed 59.5% of his career passes for 5,405 yards, with 38 touchdowns and 26 interceptions. He completed 57.3% of his attempts for 2,136 yards, with 19 touchdowns and 10 interceptions this season. - AP College Football

Illinois signed coach Bret Bielema to a new six-year contract through 2028 on Tuesday, a big reward for transforming a struggling program into a winner in his second season. Bielema, 13-11 with Illinois, gets a bump in salary from $4.2 million to $6 million. The deal, which is pending approval by the school's board of trustees in January, includes various bonuses like a $500,000 annual retention incentive. He is also eligible for four one-year extensions if certain performance thresholds - which were not disclosed in the announcement - are met. "I am proud of the progress we have made in two years and I could not be more excited about where our program is going," Bielema said in a statement.

The Illini (8-4, 5-4 Big Ten) are wrapping up their best season since the 2007 Rose Bowl team won nine games. They were ranked in the AP Top 25 poll for five straight weeks and made the College Football Playoff rankings for the first time. They're set to face Mississippi State in the ReliaQuest Bowl on Jan. 2 in Tampa, Florida, after finishing with losing records the previous 10 years. The 52-year-old Bielema, who led Wisconsin to three Rose Bowls before a disappointing run at Arkansas, is 110-69 in 14 seasons as a college coach. He is from western Illinois. - AP College Football
