  Southeast Missouri State's Jehchys Brown sacked Carson Carswell for the go-ahead safety in the fourth quarter and the Redhawks went on to defeat Western Illinois 22-17 on Saturday. Ryan Kingston's 45-yard punt left Western Illinois backed up at the 5-yard line. On third-and-5 from the 10, Brown broke through and sacked Carson for two points and a 19-17 SEMO lead with 14:10 remaining. Justin Keller added a 39-yard field goal with 59 seconds left in the game.

The Redhawks (4-7, 3-4 OVC-Big South) trailed 17-3 in the second quarter before Johnny Weber's 6-yard TD pass to Cole Ruble made it 17-10 at halftime and Brandon Epton Jr.'s 80-yard run tied at 17 early in the third quarter. Epton finished with 110 yards on the ground and Weber threw for 193. Carswell had two touchdown passes and 287 yards for the Leathernecks (3-8, 2-5). Markell Holman ran for 118 yards and Demari Davis had 104 yards receiving. - AP College Football

  WEEK 8 OVC-BIG SOUTH FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK: Johnny Weber, QB, 6-5, 213, R-Fr., Kenosha, Wis., Southeast Missouri,...Improved to 2-0 as a starter by tallying 313 yards of total offense and four touchdowns as Southeast Missouri topped Eastern Illinois 42-13 for Homecoming. Weber completed 21-of-31 passes for 283 yards and four touchdowns while carrying the ball seven times for 30 yards (4.3 ypc). All four of his touchdown passes (two to Donnie Cheers and two to Kalvin Gilbert) came in the first half as the Redhawks built a 35-6 halftime advantage. His scores went for 54, 67, 44 and 4 yards.   Donnie Cheers set career highs of 165 receiving yards and two touchdowns, Johnny Weber threw a career-high four touchdown passes, and DJ Delmore had a 95-yard pick-six for Southeast Missouri State in a 42-13 drubbing over Eastern Illinois on Saturday. Delmore opened the scoring with the first of five interceptions for the Redhawks (3-4, 2-1 OVC-Big South), picking off Cole LaCrue for an opening score.

LaCrue was 5-of-15 passing for 73 yards with three interceptions. Backups Connor Wolf and Brady Ford had an interception each. Justus Johnson had two for the Redhawks in the program's 500th win. Weber was 21 of 31 with 283 yards in his second career start. His other two passing touchdowns went to Kalvin Gilbert, who had 48 receiving yards. Eastern Illinois (3-4, 2-2) ended eight of its 18 drives in turnovers or turnover on downs. Two additional drives ended either half. Weber completed 24-of-39 passes (to eight different receivers) for 283 yards and two touchdowns in the win. He had a nine-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter and added a 10-yarder early in the fourth quarter to put the game out of reach.   Redshirt freshman Johnny Weber made his first career start for Southeast Missouri State and threw two touchdown passes, Brandon Epton Jr. ran for two TDs and the Redhawks beat Tennessee State 28-12 on Saturday night. Weber, who finished the UT Martin game last Saturday after starting quarterback Jax Leatherwood and backup Patrick Heitert sustained knee injuries, was 24-of-39 passing for 283 yards with two interceptions. Cole Ruble finished with 93 yards rushing on 12 carries for Southeast Missouri State (2-4, 1-1 OVC-Big South).

Weber threw a 9-yard touchdown pass to Donnie Cheers to open the scoring with 5:57 left in the first quarter and Epton added TD runs of 36 and 2 yards, the latter of which capped a 10-play, 99-yard drive and made it 21-0 midway through the second. Freddy Perez made 36-yard field goals just before halftime and about three minutes into the third quarter before Zack Simmons-Brown ran for a 50-yard touchdown to make it 21-12 with 13:22 to play. The Redhawks responded with a nine-play, 75-yard drive that capped the scoring with Weber hit Kalvin Gilbert for a 10-yard TD with 10:23 left. Byron McNair was 15-of-32 passing for 175 yards for Tennessee State (1-5, 0-3) before he left the game with about five minutes to play due to an injury. - AP College Football
