Micah Ford scored his third touchdown on a 2-yard run with 1:41 to play and Stanford rallied after nearly blowing a 16-point lead in the fourth quarter to beat Hawaii 37-27 on Saturday in the first game under new coach Tavita Pritchard. Davis Warren thre w for 310 yards and one touchdown in his debut for the Cardinal and engineered the game-winning drive after Hawaii had scored three touchdowns in the fourth quarter to turn a 23-7 deficit into a 27-23 lead. But instead of the biggest fourth-quarter comeb ack in school history, the Rainbow Warriors fell just short of beating the Cardinal for the second straight year in the season opener with the final attempt at a comeback ending when Micah Alejado fumbled and Tevarua Tafiti returned it 31 yards for the g ame-sealing touchdown.Warren made his first start since finishing the 2024 season at Michigan with wins over Ohio State and Alabama. He sat out last season with a knee injury and then transferred to Stanford where he won the starting job this summ er. He went 22 for 34, committed no turnovers and set a career high in yards passing. He threw a 6-yard touchdown pass to Atticus Joseph and set up Ford's first two TD runs with long passes, connecting on a 57-yarder to JonAnthony Hall and a 48-yard deep strike to freshman Zion Robinson to the Hawaii 4 on Stanford's first drive of the second half. He then went 5 for 5 for 58 yards on the game-winning drive. Alejado went 30 for 50 for 269 yards and two TDs that both came during the fourth quarter comebac k. Stanford running back Micah Ford rushed for a career-high 157 yards and a touchdown, and the Cardinal gave interim head coach Frank Reich his first collegiate win, beating Boston College 30-20 on Saturday night in the Atlantic Coast Conference opener for both teams. Collin Wright scored on a 19-yard interception return in the first half, and Stanford's defense made a momentum-changing goal-line stand in the third quarter on the way to winning its home opener. "What I loved about it most was it was just a complete team win," Reich said. "I've been around some good team wins but this is right up there with the best team wins I've been around." Ben Gulbranson completed 13 of 22 passes for 186 yards to help Stanford (1-2) give Reich his first win as a coll ege coach. A former NFL quarterback who was head coach with the Charlotte Panthers and Indianapolis Colts, Reich was hired in the offseason to replace Troy Taylor.Ford led the way with his second 100-yard performance in three games this season. Th e sophomore running back broke loose for a 75-yard run to set up Stanford's third touchdown, which came two plays after Boston College running back Turbo Richard fumbled into the end zone. "The will in Boston College's defense, they really didn't want an y part of it anymore," Ford said. "The linemen did a great job getting to the second level and I just finished the play." Emmett Kenney kicked three field goals for Stanford, which opened the season with back-to-back losses to Hawaii and BYU. Dylan Loner gan completed 30 of 40 passes for 333 yards and a touchdown for Boston College (1-2).
