Raiola, Johnson and most of the other starters didn't play in the second half as Nebraska improved to 16-0 against FCS opponents. The Huskers led 38-0 after rolling up 320 ya rds and holding Houston Christian to 52 in the first half. They finished with 554 yards. They got their first fumble return for a touchdown since 2020 early in the second quarter when William Nwaneri picked up Jake Weir's fumble on a sack and ran 2 9 yards. Houston Christian ended Nebraska's bid for a second straight shutout in the middle of the third quarter. Xai'Shaun Edwards took a handoff, shook off Jaylen George's tackle attempt and went around the left side for a 45-yard touchdown. Lateef rel ieved Raiola to start the second half and was 5 of 5 for 126 yards, including a 62-yard touchdown to Cortez Mills Jr. Dane Key caught four passes for 104 yards, including a 39-yard touchdown, and Kwinten Ives ran for 72 of his 85 yards in the second half . Dylan Raiola threw for 364 yards and four touchdowns and Emmett Johnson ran for 140 yards and scored three times to lead Nebraska past Akron 68-0 on Saturday night. The Cornhuskers (2-0) turned in their most prodigious offensive performance against a Bow l Subdivision opponent in more than a decade. They recorded their most points in a game since 2007 and most yards in a game since 2014. They posted their first shutout since a 33-0 Holiday Bowl win over Arizona in 2009. The Zips (0-2), who opened the sea son with a 10-0 loss to Wyoming at home, were held scoreless for a second straight game.Johnson broke a 47-yard touchdown run on the game's opening possession, caught a 4-yard TD pass in the second quarter and ran 6 yards for a score in the third. Johnson was the first Nebraska player with back-to-back 100-yard rushing games since Anthony Grant had three straight to open the 2022 season. Raiola gave way to freshman backup TJ Lateef after he threaded a perfect strike to Dane Key in the end zone fo r a 47-0 lead in the third quarter. Akron had two good chances to score its first points of the season. But Owen Wiley's 49-yard field goal attempt bounced off the left upright in the final seconds of the first half, and Riley Van Poppel blocked Wiley's 33-yard try in the third quarter. - Nebraska/AP College Football

Dylan Raiola threw for 243 yards and two touchdowns, and Malcolm Hartzog Jr. picked off Brendan Sorsby's pass in the end zone with 34 seconds left, preserving Nebraska's 20-17 victory over Cincinnati on Thursday night at Arrowhead Stadium. Emmett Johnson had 108 yards rushing while Dane Key and Nyziah Hunter had touchdown catches for the Huskers. Sorsby had just 69 yards passing for the Bearcats, but he also had 96 yards rushing and two scores. And he gamely led them to two second-half touchdowns, and n early a third that could have won the game had Hartzog not been there to intercept it. The Bearcats actually led 3-0 early and were still within 6-3 late in the first half when they made a crucial mistake.Despite his offense going nowhere, Cincinn ati coach Scott Satterfield tried pushing the ball downfield on first-and-10 at its own 19 with 1:02 left before the break. Sorsby completed a short pass to Caleb Goodie, but the ball popped loose and was recovered by the Huskers, who needed just three p lays to punch it into the end zone. Instead of trailing by a field goal, the Bearcats headed to the locker room trailing 13-3 - a seemingly insurmountable deficit given they had managed 20 yards passing and 81 yards of total offense over the first 30 min utes. Cincinnati fought to get back in it in the second half, though. It stopped the Huskers on fourth down early in the third quarter, and Sorsby finished the ensuing drive by diving over the pylon for a touchdown. And when Nebraska answered with a TD o f its own, Sorsby needed just 3 1/2 minutes to drive the Bearcats 75 yards and get within 20-17 with 7:15 left. The Bearcats got the ball back with about 2 minutes to go, but Hartzog made the clinching play in the final minute. - Nebraska/AP College Foot ball

Dylan Raiola passed for 238 yards and two touchdowns in his college debut and Nebraska beat UTEP 40-7 Saturday for its first win in a season opener in five years. Raiola showed poise throughout against the overmatched Miners and flashes of the flair that made him a five-star recruit and the highest-rated player to ever sign with the Cornhuskers. Both of his touchdown passes were perfectly placed. The first, for 59 yards, went to Texas transfer Isaiah Neyor, who was well covered when he caught the ball o ver his shoulder along the right sideline. Neyor stumbled as he pulled the ball in at the 12, regained his balance and ran into the end zone.On his second TD pass, Raiola lofted the ball to the outside shoulder of Wake Forest transfer Jahmal Banks , who jumped to bring down the ball in the back corner of the end zone. Raiola had pledged to Ohio State and Georgia before he told Nebraska coach Matt Rhule in mid-December he wanted to play where his father, Dominic, was an All-America center in 2000. His long-anticipated first game for the Huskers brought 86,000 to Memorial Stadium, and he undoubtedly sent the fans home happy. He played one series in the second half and was 19 of 27 for 238 yards when he turned things over to Heinrich Haarberg. - AP College Football
