Ryan Browne threw for a career-high 317 yards and three touchdowns to lead Purdue to a 44-19 victory over Indiana State on Friday night in the Boilermakers' season opener. Browne, who surpassed his previous record of 311 set last year, completed 23 of 29 passes. The junior had TD passes of 6 yards to Chauncey Magwood, 7 yards to Tra'Mar Harris and 18 yards to Asaad Waseem.The Boilermakers (1-0) led 16-6 at halftime before scoring 28 unanswered points. Purdue took a 44-6 lead on a 35-yard intercep tion return by Don Saunders with 12 seconds gone in the fourth quarter. The Sycamores (0-2) scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter. Brady Allen, in relief of Elijah Owens, completed 3 of 5 passes for 117 yards and one touchdown in the fourth quarter . Owens was 9 of 17 for 101 yards. - AP College Football

Ryan Browne threw for 311 yards and two touchdowns and ran for another TD to lead Purdue to a 31-0 rout of Ball State in Saturday's season opener for both teams. The Barry Odom coaching era at Purdue got off to a fast start when the Boilermakers scored i n the first 40 seconds on a 49-yard touchdown pass from Browne to Arhmad Branch. The Boilermakers led 21-0 at halftime, adding a 5-yard TD run by Browne and a 4-yard touchdown run by Devin Mockobee. Ball State missed its best opportunities to score when Carson Holmer missed field goals of 45 yards in the third quarter and 29 yards in the fourth quarter.Former USC and Georgia wide receiver Michael Jackson III caught a 14-yard TD pass from Browne in the third quarter in his debut as a Boilermaker. Jackson had six catches for 72 yards. Purdue added a 28-yard field goal by Spencer Porath in the fourth quarter. Mockobee was high for Purdue with 59 rushing yards on 14 attempts.
