  11/22/25 - QB Marcel ReedrSo/2028, Texas AM, 6-1, 185 (DS#5 QB) + More +

Marcel Reed threw three touchdown passes in the first quarter before sitting down early in the second as No. 3 Texas A&M built a huge early lead and rolled to a 48-0 win over FCS school Samford on Saturday. Texas A&M is 11-0 for the first time since going 12-0 under coach R.C. Slocum in 1992 and looks to cap a perfect regular season when the Aggies visit rival No. 17 Texas on Friday. Reed moved the offense with ease against the Bulldogs, leading the Aggies to touchdowns on four of his five possessions. The performance came after he struggled in the first half last week against South Carolina, putting the Aggies in a 27-point hole before bouncing back to lead the biggest comeback in school history in the 31-30 victory. He threw a 3-yard touchdown pass to Ashton Bethel-Roman on the first drive to put the Aggies on top 7-0. They made it 14-0 when KC Concepcion grabbed a 6-yard pass from Reed with about four minutes left in the first quarter. Bethel-Roman's second touchdown came on his second catch, a 58-yard reception that extended the lead to 21-0 near the end of the first. A 1-yard TD run by Amari Daniels early in the second made it 28-0.

Reed was replaced by Miles O'Neill on Texas A&M's next possession with just over 10 minutes left in the first half. Reed was 10 of 15 for 120 yards and his three touchdown passes give him 25 this season, which leads the Southeastern Conference. Daniels had nine carries for a career-high 106 yards in a game where Rueben Owens II dressed but did not play. Reed was far from the only starter who had a short day. Most of Texas A&M's starters were replaced in the second quarter after the Aggies built their commanding lead. Quincy Crittendon threw for 46 yards for Samford (1-11), which wraps up a tough season that led to coach Chris Hatcher being fired on Nov. 9. It was Samford's second game under offensive coordinator Scot Sloan, who took over as interim head coach before last week's 30-16 loss to Austin Peay. The Aggies outgained Samford 360-25 in the first half, where the Bulldogs had minus-2 passing yards. Texas A&M piled up 14 first downs before halftime while Samford had none. The Bulldogs didn't get a first down until gaining 27 yards on a short pass combined with a lateral with just over eight minutes left in the third quarter. They had a shot to score on that drive, but Jake Garner's 41-yard field goal attempt was blocked. - Texas AM/AP College Football

Marcel Reed threw for a career-high 439 yards and three touchdowns and No. 3 Texas A&M rallied from a 27-point halftime deficit to remain undefeated with a 31-30 victory over South Carolina on Saturday. "I'm not lost for words very much, but I was lost for words with the team in the locker room after the game," coach Mike Elko said. "A lot of that emotion was just pride in who they were, how they conducted themselves. There's not a lot of teams that have a culture and a core that will just keep going." The comeback was the biggest in school history, eclipsing a 21-point rally by a Johnny Manziel-led team in a 52-48 win in the 2013 Chick-Fil-A Bowl over Duke. Entering Saturday, teams were 0-286 in Southeastern Conference play since 2004 when trailing by 27 points or more. Reed bounced back from an awful first half where he was intercepted twice and had a fumble returned for a score to put the Aggies in a 30-3 hole with a dazzling second half to keep Texas A&M (10-0, 7-0, No. 3 CFP) on track for its first trip to the College Football Playoff. They're 10-0 for the first time since 1992.

Last season, Texas A&M had a seven-game winning streak entering the game against South Carolina before a 44-20 defeat sent the team into a downward spiral that knocked them out of contention to reach the playoff. "We wanted revenge on this team," Reed said. "They put us out of the question last year, and they could have put us in a bad position this year... we got this win, and it was important for us." The Aggies took the lead for the first time on a 4-yard run by EJ Smith with about 11 minutes left. Texas A&M had a first down at the 1 after that, but Jamarion Morrow fumbled on a trick play and the Gamecocks recovered with about three minutes to go. Dalton Brooks and Cashius Howell sacked LaNorris Sellers on consecutive plays to bring up fourth-and-16 with about 90 seconds to go. Sellers scrambled on fourth down and was stopped short of the first down marker to seal the victory. "It wasn't how we drew it up," linebacker Taurean York said. "But we found a way to stick together and figure out how to win the game." Sellers threw for 246 yards with two touchdowns and an interception for South Carolina (3-7, 1-7), which lost a fifth straight game. - Texas AM/AP College Football

Texas A&M is finalizing a new six-year contract with Mike Elko that is expected to make him one of the five highest-paid coaches in college football, sources confirmed to ESPN on Saturday. According to sources, the new deal, which runs from 2026 through 2031, will average more than $11 million per season. Elko, in his second year since arriving from Duke, has led Texas A&M to a potentially historic season. The 9-0 Aggies are No. 3 in the College Football Playoff rankings and are facing South Carolina on Saturday. A win would give Texas A&M its first 10-win season since 2012 and second since 2000. The Aggies haven't started 10-0 in a season since 1992, which has happened only three times in school history. Elko, 48, was the ACC Coach of the Year at Duke in 2022 and is 17-5 in two seasons in College Station. He previously was the defensive coordinator at Texas A&M under Jimbo Fisher from 2018 to 2021. Yahoo Sports first reported Texas A&M finalizing Elko's new deal. - ESPN College Football

Marcel Reed threw for 221 yards and two touchdowns, Texas A&M's hounding defense made for a forgettable first start for Missouri quarterback Matt Zollers, and the third-ranked Aggies beat the No. 19 Tigers 38-17 on Saturday to remain undefeated. Rueben Owens II added 102 yards rushing and a pair of clinching touchdown runs in the fourth quarter, as the Aggies (9-0, 6-0 Southeastern Conference, No. 3 CFP) continued their best start since 1992 with their third consecutive victory over Missouri. "You know, from a CEO perspective, I believe this is what this program is capable of. This is why we're here. We believe the ceiling of this program is really high," Aggies coach Mike Elko said. "This is what everyone has been talking about." Zollers, starting in place of injured Beau Pribula, was just 7 of 22 for 77 yards, despite getting plenty of help from his rushing attack. Jamal Roberts ran for 110 yards and a touchdown, and Ahmad Hardy added 109 yards and another score, as the Tigers (6-3, 2-3, No. 22) piled up 207 yards on the ground. "That's one of the toughest locker rooms I've been in," Missouri coach Eli Drinkwitz said, "because we all believed that we were going to win. We all believed we were going to win. They fought like they were going to win." Missouri had been in every game this season, including close losses to No. 4 Alabama and No. 15 Vanderbilt.

But losing Pribula to a season-ending injury against the Commodores left the 19-year-old Zollers to make his first start against the Aggies. It was a predictably tough task. The first true freshman to start for Missouri since Drew Lock a decade ago, Zollers spent most of the game simply trying to stay upright. And on the rare occasion that he had time to throw, Zollers either overshot hits targets or threw it into the turf, resulting in a humbling halftime line: 3 of 11 for 31 yards, two sacks and a fumble that was nearly returned for a touchdown. "We let him down as coaches tonight with the protection plan," Drinkwitz said. In fact, Zollers' fumble late in the first half may have been the tipping point in the game. - Texas AM/AP College Football

Marcel Reed passed for two touchdowns and ran for two more scores, and No. 3 Texas A&M turned a slim halftime deficit into a dominant 49-25 victory over 20th-ranked LSU on Saturday night. KC Conception caught one of Reed's TD tosses and returned a third-quarter punt 79 yards for another score for the unbeaten Aggies (8-0, 5-0 SEC). They snapped a six-game skid in LSU's Tiger Stadium, winning there for the first time since 1994. A&M is off to its best start since the 1992 Aggies went 12-0 in the regular season before losing to Notre Dame in the Cotton Bowl. Reed passed for 202 yards and rushed for 108, highlighted by his 41-yard TD scramble, as he continues to build a case for Heisman Trophy consideration.

Reed's other touchdown pass was a short flip to running back Jamarion Morrow, who covered most of the play's 24 yards after the catch. Morrow added an 11-yard TD rushing in the fourth quarter. Garrett Nussmeier, who eschewed the 2025 NFL draft to return to LSU (5-3, 2-3), saw his highly anticipated senior season continue to crumble. He passed for 168 yards, including a short TD pass to Trey'Dez Green, but the Tigers' offense could not keep up with Reed and Co. for 60 minutes. LSU led 18-14 at halftime, thanks in large part to big special teams and defensive plays in the second quarter. Jhase Thomas blocked an Aggies punt through the end zone for a safety. A.J. Haulcy's interception in the end zone set up freshman Harlem Berry's 7-yard touchdown run that gave LSU a 15-14 lead. Soon after, linebacker Harold Perkins intercepted a deflected pass near midfield. But LSU stalled in the red zone and settled for Damian Ramos' field goal for an 18-14 halftime lead. - Texas AM/AP College Football

Marcel Reed threw for 280 yards and three touchdowns, and ran for 55 yards and another score as No. 4 Texas A&M held on to beat Arkansas 45-42 on Saturday and keep its perfect season going. The Aggies (7-0, 4-0 Southeastern Conference) have opened with seven wins for the first time since 1994, when they finished 10-0-1. With No. 9 Georgia's 43-35 win over No. 5 Mississippi earlier Saturday, Texas A&M is the only remaining unbeaten team in the SEC. The Aggies continued their dominance in the series with the Razorbacks (2-5, 0-3), winning for the 13th time in the last 14 meetings. Texas A&M scored on seven of nine completed rives and totaled 497 yards of offense. Leading 38-35 with less than 10 minutes remaining and facing serious game pressure after Taylen Green's four-yard touchdown pass to Jaden Platt, Texas A&M's EJ Smith had a two-yard conversion on fourth-and-1 from the Aggies' 34 to extend a critical drive.

Reed then found Ashton Bethel-Roman for 37 yards to the Arkansas 27, and Reuben Owens II scored on a 12-yard run four plays later to extend the lead to 10. With 10 seconds to play, Green hit CJ Brown for a four-yard score to pull the Razorbacks back within three. Texas A&M recovered the ensuing onside kick to seal the win. Owens, the Aggies' primary ball carrier in place of the injured Le'Veon Moss, finished with 69 yards rushing and two touchdowns. Bethel-Roman had 83 yards receiving and a score, KC Concepcion added five catches for 53 yards and a touchdown, and Nate Boerkircher had a one-yard touchdown catch. Green threw for 256 yards and three scores and ran for 89 yards and two more touchdowns, and Mike Washington rushed for a season-high 147 yards for Arkansas in its fifth straight loss. - Texas AM/AP College Football

Marcel Reed threw for 234 yards and a touchdown and ran for another score as No. 5 Texas A&M continued its perfect start with a 34-17 victory over Florida on Saturday night. It's the first 6-0 start for the Aggies since 2016 and they improved to 3-0 in Southeastern Conference play. Florida (2-4, 1-2) was unable to build off last week's 29-21 upset over then-No. 9 Texas that snapped a three-game skid as coach Billy Napier fell to 0-14 on the road against ranked opponents. Texas A&M scored touchdowns on its first three possessions but managed only a field goal after that until Rueben Owens scored on a 2-yard run that made it 31-17 with about 4 1/2 minutes to go. That score came after Florida couldn't take advantage of a turnover and Texas A&M took more than eight minutes off the clock on the drive. The Aggies led by 7 when Jordan Castell intercepted Reed in the end zone on the first play of the fourth quarter.

DJ Lagway's pass was deflected and fell incomplete on fourth-and-6 near midfield to give Texas A&M the ball back to start the drive that ended in the score by Owens. Dayon Hayes sacked Lagway and forced a fumble that the Aggies recovered on the first play of Florida's next drive and they tacked on a field goal to seal the victory. The Gators looked good early and it was tied at 14 at the end of the first quarter before Texas A&M outscored them 20-3 the rest of the way. Lagway threw for 245 yards with two touchdowns and Vernell Brown III had six receptions for 77 yards as the Gators faced their fourth straight opponent ranked in the top 10 of the AP poll. The Aggies had 183 yards rushing a week after running for a season-high 303 yards despite starter Le'Veon Moss leaving before halftime with an apparent injury. Owens ran for 51 yards and Moss had five carries for 46 yards and a touchdown before limping off the field in the second quarter. - Texas AM/AP College Football

Texas A&M made a big jump into the top 10 of The Associated Press college football poll Sunday after its dramatic win at Notre Dame, and the Irish became the first team since 1988 to stay in the Top 25 with an 0-2 record. Ohio State, Penn State and LSU remained the top three teams, with Miami moving up to No. 4 and Georgia to No. 5 even after a close call at No. 15 Tennessee. Oregon slipped two spots to No. 6 despite a 20-point road win against Northwestern and was followed by Florida State, Texas, Illinois and the Aggies. Georgia Tech, Vanderbilt and Southern California made their season debuts in the Top 25. Ohio State tussled with Ohio into the middle of the third quarter of a 37-9 win and received 55 first-place votes, two fewer than last week. Penn State got five first-place votes, LSU got two, Miami got three and Oregon got one.

The Hurricanes' first-place votes are their first since getting three on Nov. 19, 2017. Alabama was rewarded for its 24-point home win against Wisconsin and moved up five spots to No. 14. Voters didn't punish Tennessee for its overtime home loss to Georgia and kept the Volunteers No. 15. Texas A&M was promoted six spots after it overcame a scary injury to safety Bryce Anderson, a blocked punt returned for a touchdown and 13 penalties to win 41-40 on Marcel Reed's fourth-and-goal pass to Nate Boerkircher with 11 seconds left. The Aggies, who opened with solid wins over UTSA and Utah State, are 3-0 for the first time since 2021 and have their highest ranking since they were No. 10 entering November last season. Notre Dame has lost its first two games, both against ranked opponents, by a total of four points. The Irish lost 27-24 at Miami and had an open date before Texas A&M visited. They fell from No. 8 to No. 24. The 1988 Michigan Wolverines, the previous team to start 0-2 and remain ranked, also had an extremely tough first two games. They entered the season No. 9 and lost to No. 13 Notre Dame 19-17, dropped to No. 15 and lost 31-30 at No. 1 Miami. Michigan was No. 19 the following week and went 9-0-1 the rest of the way. Other teams that started 0-2 and stayed in the rankings were 1984 Auburn, 1958 SMU, 1949 Missouri and 1948 Purdue. - AP College Football

Marcel Reed escaped pressure to throw an 11-yard touchdown pass to Nate Boerkircher with 13 seconds left, Randy Bond kicked the extra point and No. 16 Texas A&M beat No. 8 Notre Dame 41-40 on Saturday night. "I don't think Nate had a target all game, but when his name was called, he was ready," Reed said. Texas A&M (3-0) beat a Top 25 team on the road for the first time since knocking off then-No. 3 Auburn on Nov. 8, 2014. The Aggies had lost 13 straight road games to ranked opponents. "I don't know that anything went to script in terms of how you want to go about winning a game on the road," said Texas A&M coach Mike Elko, a former Notre Dame assistant coach. "We just kept fighting, kept battling, kept scrapping. Ultimately, we made one more play than they did." Notre Dame dropped to 0-2 after playing in the national title game last season.

The Irish opened with a 24-27 loss at No. 5 Miami on Aug. 31. "You've got to go to work and practice and get better," coach Marcus Freeman said. "We're 0-2. So what do you control? You control getting better and getting ready for the next one. I can't sit here and dwell on being 0-2 as much as I need to dwell on how do we find ways to improve." Notre Dame pushed ahead 40-34 with 2:53 to go on Jeremiyah Love's 12-yard run. A botched snap on the extra point kept the lead at six. Texas A&M started at its 26 on the winning drive after a 99-yard kickoff return by Terry Bussey was negated by a holding penalty, but quickly reached Notre Dame territory. Mario Craver, who had an 86-yard TD reception in the first quarter, gained 34 yards on a pass from Reed to the 37. Texas A&M reached the Notre Dame 10 and survived back-to-back penalties before the winning score. Reed was 17 of 37 for a career-high 360 yards and two touchdowns. Carver caught seven passes for 207 yards. Love gained 94 yards on 23 carries, and quarterback C.J. Carr was 20 of 32 with a touchdown and an interception. - Texas AM/AP College Football

Texas A&M quarterback Marcel Reed left the game against Utah State in the third quarter Saturday after landing awkwardly at the end of a run. Reed lost his footing and fell during a scramble before being hit by a defender while down. He remained down on the field for a bit and trainers rushed out to tend to him. He got up after a couple of minutes and walked to the sideline. Reed was in the medical tent for a few minutes before coming out and jogging off the field with trainers. There was no immediate update on his condition. Texas A&M led 37-14 when Reed left with about four minutes to go in the third quarter. - AP College Football
