  11/28/25 - QB Arch ManningrSo/2028, Texas, 6-4, 219 (DS#3 QB) + More +

Arch Manning threw a touchdown pass and ran for the clinching score late in the fourth quarter and No. 16 Texas beat No. 3 Texas A&M 27-17 on Friday night to spoil the Aggies' undefeated season and knock them out of the Southeastern Conference championship game. Manning's 29-yard touchdown pass to Ryan Wingo in the third quarter gave Texas (9-3, 6-2 SEC, No, 16 CFP) a 13-10 lead in what had been a tight, defensive game. His 35-yard run up the middle on third down with 7:04 left to play put the Longhorns up 27-17. Texas, which started the season No. 1 and at one point was unranked, beat a top-10 opponent for the third time this season to keep alive any faint hopes of making the College Football Playoff for the third consecutive time.

The Aggies (11-1, 7-1, No. 3 CFP) are all but assured their first playoff berth, but the loss to their biggest rival will sting the program for a long time. Texas A&M has never played for an SEC title since joining the league in the 2012 season. Texas A&M quarterback Marcel Reed, who had emerged as a late-season Heisman Trophy contender and led the Aggies' in a stunning second-half rally against South Carolina two weeks ago, threw two fourth-quarter interceptions against the Longhorns, one of them at the Texas 3. Texas A&M led 10-3 at halftime before Texas seized control with 17 consecutive points in the third quarter. The Aggies pulled to 20-17 before Manning's big TD run. Facing third-and-short, Manning ran through the right side of the line, found a seam to slip into the secondary, and clutched the ball tightly as he crossed the goal line ahead of a lunging defender. - Texas/AP College Football

Manning bounced back from a 35-10 loss at Georgia to pass for a career-high 389 yards. He connected with DeAndre Moore Jr. for three touchdowns.   Arch Manning passed for four touchdowns, ran for one and caught another as No. 17 Texas beat Arkansas 52-37 on Saturday to keep the Longhorns clinging to hopes of making the College Football Playoff. Ranked No. 1 in the preseason, the Longhorns (8-3, 5-2, Southeastern Conference, No. 17 CFP ) will have to beat third-ranked rival Texas A&M on Friday for a chance to make a case they deserve to be in the playoff for the third consecutive season. Manning became the first Texas quarterback with passing, running and receiving touchdowns in a game. He passed for a career-high 389 yards, and his do-everything day showed how far he's come from the beginning of the season, when Texas struggled to a 3-2 start.

Manning connected with DeAndre Moore Jr. for three touchdowns. Manning's touchdown catch on a reverse pass from Parker Livingstone was an athletic grab where he had to twist his 6-foot-4 frame and reach high to make the play. Livingstone also had a 54-yard TD reception. On his touchdown run at the start of the third quarter, Manning cut twice to elude tacklers before lunging across the goal line for a 31-20 lead. Arkansas (2-9, 0-7) kept it close early and was within 24-20 at halftime behind touchdown runs from quarterback Taylen Green and running back Mike Washington. Green threw an interception on Arkansas' first possession of the second half. The turnover set up another Texas touchdown when Manning escaped a sack and found Moore open in the back of the end zone. - Texas/AP College Football

WEEK 10 SEC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Arch Manning, QB, Texas,...Manning posted his second-straight game of 300-plus yards passing and three passing touchdowns as he led the Longhorns to a 34-31 win over No. 9 Vanderbilt. It was the first time a Texas quarterback accomplished that in consecutive games since Sam Ehlinger in November 2018...He is also the fourth UT quarterback to reach both marks in three games in a season since 1999, joining Major Applewhite (1999), Colt McCoy 2009), and Casey Thompson (2021). Overall, Manning completed 25-of-33 attempts for 328 yards and three touchdowns in guiding the Longhorns to their second top-10 win of the season and their fourth-straight victory overall.

It was also the first time in 30 years a Texas had eight different receivers with multiple catches and at least 15 yards receiving each. Manning opened the game with a 75-yard touchdown connection to Ryan Wingo on the first play of the game, his third 75-yard touchdown pass in the last two seasons, the third-most among FBS quarterbacks in that time...Manning later registered six-yard touchdown passes to both CJ Baxter and Emmett Mosley V as the Longhorns built a 34-10 lead through the first three quarters...For the season, Manning is now 168-of-268 (62.7%) for 2,123 yards and 18 touchdowns with just six interceptions. He now has three 300-yard passing games this season and four in his career. Manning ranks third in the SEC and 10th nationally in points responsible for with 144, while his 18 passing touchdowns are fourth in the SEC and 19th nationally. - SEC Football

The Texas Longhorns returned to the top 10 of the Associated Press college football poll on Sunday, while the ACC has five teams ranked for the first time this season and two Group of 5 conferences are now represented with a month before the College Football Playoff bracket is set. The Longhorns, the preseason No. 1 team, are ranked No. 10 in advance of their visit to No. 5 Georgia this week. They had been in the top 10 for the first six polls before their loss at Florida knocked them out of the Top 25 for a week. Four straight wins elevated them to No. 13 last week, and they jumped three spots ahead of BYU and Virginia and an idle Oklahoma, which they beat 23-6 on Oct. 11. Texas did not play over the weekend.

BYU, which was unbeaten before its 29-7 loss at Texas Tech, dropped four spots to No. 12 to end its two-week stay in the top 10. Ohio State was No. 1 for the 11th week in a row with 55 first-place votes. Indiana remained No. 2 after its narrow escape at Penn State, but the Hoosiers' six first-place votes were five fewer than last week. No. 3 Texas A&M got four first-place votes, three more than a week ago, and was 31 points behind Indiana. Alabama and Georgia rounded out the top five. Ole Miss, Oregon, Texas Tech, Notre Dame and Texas rounded out the top 10. In all, 19 spots in the Top 25 changed hands. - AP College Football

Texas quarterback Arch Manning started for the No. 20 Longhorns against No. 9 Vanderbilt after clearing concussion protocol and threw two touchdowns in the first half. Texas led 24-10 at halftime. Manning had been listed as questionable on Wednesday's injury report to the Southeastern Conference, but coach Steve Sarkisian also said his quarterback was practicing and making "good progress" during the week. He was removed from Friday night's updated list.

Manning was injured in Texas' 45-38 overtime win over Mississippi State when he led a 17-point fourth-quarter rally. Matthew Caldwell entered the game in overtime and threw the winning touchdown pass. Manning has passed for 1,980 yards and 17 touchdowns. A preseason favorite for the Heisman Trophy, Manning struggled for much of the early season but played his best game against Mississippi State with 346 yards passing and three touchdowns. He passed for 169 yards in the final quarter. - Texas/AP College Football

Texas quarterback Arch Manning was in concussion protocol and did not practice Monday ahead of the No. 20 Longhorns' game against No. 9 Vanderbilt. Coach Steve Sarkisian said the team would get an update on Manning's injury later in the week. Manning was injured on the first play of overtime in Texas' 45-38 win over Mississippi State. If he can't play against the Commodores (7-1, 3-1 Southeastern Conference), Texas (6-2, 3-1) would hand the offense to graduate transfer Matthew Caldwell, who has seen only spot duty this season but came off the bench to throw the winning touchdown pass against the Bulldogs on his only pass attempt of the game.

Manning has passed for 1,795 yards and 15 touchdowns. A preseason favorite for the Heisman Trophy, Manning struggled for much of the early season but played his best game Saturday with 346 yards and three touchdowns as Texas rallied from 17 points down in the fourth quarter. Manning passed for 169 yards in the final quarter. Caldwell transferred from Troy and has taken a journeyman's route to Austin over his career. His first stop was at Jacksonville State before he transferred to Gardner-Webb and then Troy. He went 3-2 as a starter at Troy last season with 13 touchdown passes. Sarkisian said Texas has confidence in Caldwell if he has to start Texas' first home game since Sept. 20. - AP College Football

In the midst of No. 22 Texas' comeback overtime win at Mississippi State on Saturday, questions now persist about Longhorn quarterback Arch Manning's health. Manning scrambled for 13 yards on the first play of overtime but then left the field with an apparent upper-body injury. Backup quarterback Matthew Caldwell entered and threw a 10-yard touchdown pass to Emmett Mosley for the 45-38 win.

Texas coach Steve Sarkisian did not immediately provide an update on Manning, but he was impressed with Caldwell's ability to make a big play to win the game. "I think his rapport with Arch was a big part of it. They have a great relationship," Sarkisian said of Caldwell. "What a moment for that guy to step in and make that throw." Manning overcame some tough moments throughout the game and helped bring the Longhorns (6-2, 3-1 Southeastern Conference) back from a 17-point, fourth-quarter deficit. He finished 29 of 46 for 346 yards, three touchdowns and one interception and rushed for another score. The Bulldogs (4-4, 0-4 SEC) put plenty of hits on the redshirt sophomore as they had five. They also had a costly roughing the passer penalty on an incomplete pass on fourth-and-1 that would eventually lead to a Longhorn touchdown. - AP College Football

Matthew Caldwell threw a touchdown pass to Emmett Mosley in overtime after Arch Manning was knocked out of the game with an injury and No. 22 Texas came from behind to beat Mississippi State 45-38 on Saturday. Ryan Niblett returned a punt 79 yards to tie the game with 1:47 to play in regulation as Texas erased a 31-14 halftime deficit. The Longhorns (6-2, 3-1 Southeastern Conference) still trailed 38-21 with 12:29 remaining in the game when Davon Booth had a 62-yard catch and run for a touchdown for the Bulldogs. A 21-yard touchdown pass from Manning to Mosley with 9:34 left and Mason Shipley's 26 -ard field goal in the final five minutes made it 38-31. Manning finished 29 of 46 for 346 yards, three touchdowns, one interception and he also had a rushing touchdown before leaving early in overtime.

The Bulldogs (4-4, 0-4) were led quarterback Blake Shapen, who had a career game and finished 26 of 42 for 381 yards and four touchdowns. Mississippi State had 445 yards of total offense, gthe most surrendered by the Longhorns all season. Texas finished with 428 yards. The Bulldogs had five sacks and 12 tackles for loss, but the Longhorns' seven sacks were the difference as Shapen was dropped four times in the final five minutes of regulation and overtime. - Texas/AP College Football

Ryan Niblett returned a punt 75 yards for a decisive touchdown in the fourth quarter and Texas got a much-needed 23-6 win over sixth-ranked Oklahoma in the annual Red River Rivalry game on Saturday. Arch Manning completed 21 of 27 passes for 166 yards and the go-ahead 12-yard TD to DeAndre Moore Jr. on the opening drive of the second half for the Longhorns (4-2, 1-1 Southeastern Conference), who were coming off a loss at Florida that knocked the preseason No. 1 team out of the AP Top 25. Texas retained the Golden Hat trophy and should get back into the next poll on Sunday. More importantly, the Longhorns avoided a loss that likely would have ended any realistic chance of getting into the College Football Playoff for the third year in a row.

John Mateer was 20-of-38 passing with three interceptions in his return to the lineup for Oklahoma (5-1, 1-1) only 17 days after surgery on his throwing (right) hand. Niblett worked up the sideline in front of the Texas bench, and after making a cut inside near midfield bounced off a teammate and continued his sprint to the end zone for a 20-6 lead with 9:59 left. When the Sooners gained 38 yards on three plays to the Texas 27 on the ensuing drive, Mateer had an incompletion before being sacked on consecutive plays and then had another incompletion on fourth-and-22. They finished with only 258 total yards. Mason Shipley kicked field goals of 22, 48 and 39 yards for the Longhorns. He had two long misses, the first a 55-yard attempt that ricocheted off the right upright, and was later short on a 56-yard attempt. Tate Sandell kicked a 42-yard field goal on the game's opening drive for the Sooners. He made it 6-0 with a 41-yarder in the second quarter, but they didn't score again. - Texas/AP College Football

Arch Manning passed for 309 yards and three touchdowns in his sharpest game of the season so far as No. 8 Texas cruised to a 55-0 win over Sam Houston on Saturday night. Manning was 18 of 21 passing and also ran for two first-half touchdowns. He connected with Ryan Wingo for touchdowns of 53 and 13 yards in the third quarter before leaving the game with Texas (3-1) leading 45-0.

Manning needed a confidence builder after a poor start to the season and got one against the overmatched Bearkats (0-4). His passes looked crisp and decisive, and his first touchdown run saw him stand and flex over a defender before a game official broke them up. Manning had come into the game completing just 55% of his passes. The preseason betting favorite for the Heisman Trophy had promised several times during the week he would start playing better. - Texas/AP College Football

Arch Manning scuffled through another shaky performance in Texas' 27-10 victory over UTEP. This time, Longhorns fans let Manning hear their frustration. Manning and the vaunted Texas offense were booed loudly by the crowd at DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium at one point Saturday during the first half. Despite the Longhorns' victory, Manning admitted that his play must improve. "I've got to play better," Manning said. "A lot of quarterbacks - a lot of players - want to be great. I know I'm better than this." The preseason Heisman Trophy favorite, Manning struggled in Texas' season-opening road loss at Ohio State that started a wave of national criticism and questions of whether he was overrated and was anointed too soon. Saturday's poor outing will only bring more.

Manning was 11-of-25 passing for 114 yards and a touchdown against the Miners in a game where Texas (2-1) was heavily favored. He had a string of misfires with 10 consecutive incompletions in the second quarter, tossed an end zone interception and never looked comfortable as he side-armed some throws and missed open receivers on others. The Longhorns led 7-3 with 1:36 remaining in the second quarter when Manning's errant third-down throw was nearly picked off, prompting boos by the home crowd as the offense left the field. "I felt like he pressed some. He knew he missed some throws," Texas coach Steve Sarkisian said. "I feel like we've done enough with him to have a pretty good understanding of who he is as a player and what he's capable of. I know there's a lot of football in him that's high-level football." Manning said he agonized over some of the incompletions on throws he said he normally makes. "All my life I've been an accurate passer," he said. "I've just got to get back to it." - AP College Football

Arch Manning had two first-half touchdown runs while struggling through another poor passing game in No. 7 Texas' 27-10 victory over UTEP on Saturday. One of the preseason favorites for the Heisman Trophy, Manning ran 2 yards for an early touchdown and had a 5-yard scoring run in the final seconds of the half for a 14-3 lead. But he also had 10 straight incompletions, threw an interception in the end zone and was briefly booed by the home crowd in the first half.

Manning has struggled to live up to his preseason hype after Texas (2-1) debuted at No. 1 before losing its season opener at Ohio State. He was 9 of 22 for 97 yards through three quarters with sidearm throws and overthrown receivers before tossing a short touchdown pass to Ryan Wingo early in the fourth. Texas smothered the Miners (1-2), holding UTEP to 259 total yards. The Longhorns have surrendered just four touchdowns this season. - Texas/AP College Football

Arch Manning passed for four touchdowns and ran for another and No. 7 Texas rebounded from a season-opening loss to defeat San Jose State 38-7 Saturday. Manning was 19 of 30 for 295 yards and one interception in his second game as the starter. He scrambled for a 20-yard touchdown run in the third quarter for Texas (1-1). Last week he completed 10 of 17 for 170 yards with a touchdown and an interception during a 14-7 loss at Ohio State. Wide receiver Parker Livingstone and tight end Jack Endries each had two touchdown receptions in the first half. Manning and Livingstone combined for an 83-yard touchdown, the longest pass play for the Longhorns since 2017. Livingstone finished with four catches for 128 yards.

Earlier in the week, Texas defenders lamented having the 24-game streak of forcing a turnover snapped during the loss at Ohio State. That changed in the first quarter Saturday, when Texas safety Jelani McDonald tipped Walker Eget's pass that Jaylon Guilbeau intercepted, the first of four turnovers by San Jose State (0-2). Eget completed 21 of 42 for 188 yards. Kyri Shoels had eight receptions for 73 yards for the Spartans. Danny Scudero had seven catches for 66 yards. - Texas/AP College Football

Arch Manning threw his first career touchdown pass and ran for his first score in mop-up duty in No. 4 Texas' 52-0 victory over Colorado State on Saturday in the season opener. The five-star recruit with the NFL family pedigree might be the highest- profile backup quarterback in the country as he waits behind starter Quinn Ewers. And while Manning, still a freshman after playing briefly last season, might not be a threat to unseat Ewers, every step on the field is met with robust cheers from Longhorns fans. Manning, the son of Cooper Manning, is the grandson of former NFL quarterback Archie Manning, and the nephew of Super Bowl-winning QBs Peyton and Eli Manning.

Texas led 38-0 in the third quarter when Manning entered the game. His first play was a 40-yard completion to Johntay Cook II. His second pass was a 5-yard TD strike to Silas Bolden. On the play, Manning scrambled to avoid a pass rush, then looked ready to bolt for the end zone before shoveling the pass to Bolden. His 1-yard touchdown run with 10 minutes left was Texas' final score. Manning's readiness to play significant minutes this season could be key in Texas' first season in the Southeastern Conference. Ewers has missed multiple games each of the previous two seasons with injuries. - AP College Football

Freshman quarterback Arch Manning hit the field for the first time as Longhorn on Monday as Texas held its first practice of the spring. Manning is one of the more highly anticipated recruiting stories in quite some time at the college level. The former five-star prospect is the nephew of NFL legends Eli and Peyton Manning. While the last name holds significant weight, Arch has proved on the field he has earned all the hype given to him.

Manning threw for over 7,000 yards and nearly 80 touchdowns in his high school career, taking over records set by his uncles. In addition, he led Isidore Newman to the postseason each year as a starter. Manning is set to compete in an excellent Texas quarterback room with returning starter Quinn Ewers and talented second-year passer Maalik Murphy. - USA Today
