AUG 31/WEEK 0 BIG SKY OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Anthony Grigsby Jr., QB, Cal Poly,...Cal Poly's Anthony Grigsby Jr. led the Mustangs to a thrilling 38-34 victory over Idaho, as the fifth-year quarterback racked up 381 yards of total offense and five touchdowns in the conference opener on ESPN. Grigsby Jr., who was responsible for all five of Cal Poly's touchdowns on Friday night, had two of the Mustangs biggest plays after running in a 15-yard score with 2:16 remaining to tie the game before tossing the game-winning touchdown with nine seconds remaining on a 34-yard touchdown pass that came on 4th and 8. Grigsby Jr. completed 26-of-35 passes for 319 yards, four touchdowns, and no interceptions, while rushing the ball 14 times for 62 yards on the ni ght. The victory for Cal Poly was the program's first over Idaho in six attempts. Quarterback Anthony Grigby, Jr. threw for 319 yards, finishing 26-for-35 and finding wide receiver Tayvion McCoy for his fourth and final touchdown pass with nine seconds remaining Friday evening as the Cal Poly football program opened the 2026 season an d Big Sky Conference action with a 38-34 victory against Idaho at Mustang Memorial Field. During an evening when Cal Poly retired the No. 74 of Pro Football Hall of Fame legend and Mustang alum John Madden at halftime and set a new program attendance rec ord with 11,186 fans, Cal Poly fell behind, 34-31, with 63 seconds remaining after Vandals kicker Owen Forsman converted a 40-yard field goal attempt.With Cal Poly starting its final drive on its own 23-yard line, Grigsby completed a 41-yard pass to McCoy before another completion brought the Mustangs to the Idaho 36. On fourth-and-eight, Grigsby found McCoy from 34 yards for the game-winning touchdown. McCoy finished with 10 catches for 170 yards in his Cal Poly debut. - Cal Poly football

Anthony Grigsby Jr. was 21-of-37 passing for 341 yards and threw three touchdown passes to help Cal Poly beat Eastern Washington 43-34 on Saturday, snapping a six-game losing streak. Grigsby hit Logan Booher for a 31-yard TD and connected with Alek Marsh all for a 54-yarder in the first quarter, and his 16-yard scoring strike to Fidel Pitts about a minute into the fourth quarter gave Cal Poly (4-8, 2-6 Big Sky Conference) a 37-34 lead. Eastern Washington (5-7, 4-4) went three-and-out on its next two poss essions before Cal Poly's Tyrei Washington ripped off a 33-yard touchdown run to cap the scoring with 7:06 to play.Washington had 99 yards rushing on 21 carries. Booher finished with seven receptions for 126 yards and Pitts had 89 yards receiving on five catches for the Mustangs. Kaden Rolfsness, who made his first collegiate start - and became the fourth player this season to start at quarterback for Eastern Washington - completed 23 of 42 passes for 236 yards with a touchdown and three intercep tions. The true freshman ran for TDs of 7, 1 and 13 yards and finished with 56 yards rushing on 19 carries. EWU's Isaiah Perez blocked a PAT attempt in the fourth quarter, the 6-foot-2 defensive tackle's fourth blocked kick this season. - AP College Foot ball
