10/05 WEEK 5 CUSA OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: James Jones, NM State - Gr. - RB - Baltimore, Md.,...Jones broke out for 155 rushing yards and a touchdown on 20 carries to lead the Aggies (2-3, 1-0) to a commanding 34-13 home win over WKU on Thursday. He had an explosive 46-yard rush in the first quarter to set NM State up for their first points of the game, and he book-ended it with a seven-yard touchdown run to cap off the scoring. Jones became the first Aggie to record back-to-back 100-yard games sin ce 2019. He tallied five rushes of 10 yards or longer, improving his yards per carry on the year to 6.62, which ranks 13th in FBS. - CUSA Football

James Jones had a season-high 155 yards rushing and a touchdown on 20 carries, De'Marcus Peters had a pick-6, and New Mexico State beat Western Kentucky 34-13 on Thursday night in the Conference USA opener for both teams. The Aggies (2-3) have three defe nsive touchdowns this season, tied with Alabama, North Dakota State and Notre Dame for most in the Football Bowl Subdivision. Adam Damante made his first start of the season in place of Trey Hedden, who had thrown four interceptions and had one touchdown pass in back-to-back losses for New Mexico State. Damante was 15-of-26 passing for 146 yards with a touchdown and an interception.Peters, who also returned a fumble 85 yards for a score in a 29-19 loss at Hawaii on Sept. 12, picked off a pass fro m Rodney Tisdale Jr. near midfield and returned it for a touchdown that gave the Aggies a 10-point lead about 6 1/2 minutes into the second quarter. Damante pulled the handoff on a zone-read play and raced to the right corner of the end zone for a 1-yard touchdown that capped a 10-play, 78-yard drive and gave the Aggies a 20-3 lead with 2:38 left until halftime. Brock Glenn scored on a 9-yard run and Tisdale was 29-of-40 passing for 314 yards with an interception for Western Kentucky (1-4). Karl Campbel l kicked first-half field goals of 45 and 41 yards. New Mexico State, which went into the game with six sacks this season, had six sacks and a season-high nine tackles for loss. Ilya Uvaydov made a season-long 52-yard field goal and a 28-yarder for the A ggies. James Jones ran for 115 yards and one touchdown on 13 carries as Delaware State weathered a Morgan State comeback attempt to win 14-12 on Friday night. Jones scored less than a minute into the first quarter on a 68-yard rush that gave the Hornets (7-3, 3 -0 MEAC) a 7-0 lead. Jones came close to another six seconds into the second quarter, but fumbled at the goal-line. The ball was recovered by freshman offensive lineman Amori Francis for his first career touchdown.Randall Nauden, who ran for 104 t otal yards on just seven carries, had a 67-yard rushing score for the Bears (3-7, 0-3) to get his team within two points early in the fourth quarter, but the two-point attempt was no good. After connecting on 19-and 37-yard field goals in the game, Alex Amaya's attempt from 45 yards as time expired sailed wide to leave the comeback effort just short. James Jones ran for 111 yards and a pair of touchdowns, and Delaware State beat Saint Francis 39-10 on Saturday. Jones amassed his yardage total on seven carries. Ninety of his 111 total yards came on a single run on the only play of a Hornets (3-1) driv e that started at Delaware State's 10. His dash made it 20-0 with 13:48 left in the second quarter. Jones ran it in from the 1 to end the first quarter for a 13-0 advantage. Marquis Gillis put Delaware State on the board with a 3-yard run six minutes int o the game. Saint Francis's (0-4) lone touchdown came on a 1-yard pass from Nick Whitfield Jr. to Kameron Chisholm. Whitfield threw for 265 yards and two interceptions. The Hornets' last 3-1 start was in 2007, when Delaware State went 10-2 and lost to De laware in the then I-AA playoffs. - AP College Football
