Cale Hellums threw the first touchdown pass to an Army tight end since 2008 for the go-ahead score in a 27-24 victory over UTSA on Saturday. Hellums completed two fourth-down passes during a 13-play, 75-yard drive that took over six minutes and ended wit h his 4-yard toss to Parker Poloskey with 2:49 to go. UTSA's final drive ended on downs. Army (6-5, 4-4 American) had to have the win in this conference finale to become bowl eligible as matchups are announced Dec. 7, before the Black Knights' regular-se ason finale against Navy on Dec. 13 in Baltimore.Owen McCown threw a pair of fourth-quarter touchdown passes to rally UTSA (6-6, 4-4), taking a 24-20 lead on his 7-yard pass to Jamel Hardy. The Roadrunners had cut the Black Knights' lead to 20-17 on McCown's 8-yard toss to Patrick Overmyer. Army trailed 10-0 early then scored 17 straight points before halftime beginning with Noah Short taking a pitch and running for an 81-yard score. Jaydan Mayes took a tipped pass and ran it back for a 73-yard p ick-6. USTA wide receiver David Amador II threw a 4-yard touchdown pass to Overmyer for the game's first points. Short rushed for 127 yards on 14 carries and Hellums added 90 on 23. Hellums threw just 10 passes, completing four, including the three cruci al ones in the fourth quarter. Dawson Jones kicked two field goals. McCown was 27-of-40 for 266 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. Cale Hellums ran for 118 yards and a touchdown as the quarterback helped Army dominate the clock for a 14-13 win over Temple on Saturday. The Black Knights (5-4, 3-3 American Athletic Conference) kept the ball 15 more minutes than the Owls (5-5, 3-3). Te mple punted the ball away with 9:53 left in the game and never got another snap as Army ran 18 plays to run out the clock. The drive started on the Army 42. The Black Knights converted a fourth-and-1 on the Temple 35 and another from the 14. Army finishe d the day 4 of 5 on fourth downs, 7 of 14 on third. The Owls were ready to concede a touchdown but Hellums slid at the Temple 4, kept the ball for 3 yards on the next play and had a pair of kneel downs to wrap it up.Army had an 11-play, 73-yard dr ive to take a 7-0 on a 7-yard run by Jake Rendina early in the second quarter. A field goal on the last play of the first half gave Temple a 10-7 lead but Hellums' 3-yard run capped a 14-play, 75-yard drive, taking up 8:21, to open the second half for Ar my's final points. The only other possession of the third quarter ended in a Temple field goal with 22 seconds left. Hellums was 1 of 3 for 26 yards. Cale Hellums threw a 42-yard pass to Brady Anderson with 24 seconds left and Dawson Jones made a game-winning 27-yard field goal on the final play to give Army a 20-17 victory over Air Force on Saturday. Army (4-4) has won seven of the last nine meetings with Air Force (2-6), including three in a row - its first three-game streak in the series since 1976-78. It was a wild final two minutes. Hellums was stopped on a fourth-and-1 sneak deep in Army territory with 2:10 left. The Falcons took advantage of t he great field position, and a pass interference call in the end zone, to tie it at 17-all on Liam Szarka's 2-yard sneak with 1:26 left.Hellums started the game-winning drive with a 10-yard pass and then Army ran it four straight plays. Hellums' n inth pass attempt, and fifth completion, went to Anderson, who had run past the defense over the middle. Hellums threw for 102 yards with a touchdown, and he carried it 26 times for 98 yards and another score. Briggs Bartosh added 74 yards rushing. Szark a was 13 of 17 for 161 yards but he was intercepted twice for Air Force, which also lost a fumble for a three-turnover game. Szarka had two touchdowns on the ground and 91 yards. Quarterback Cale Hellums rushed for 143 yards and two touchdowns, and Army had 304 yards on the ground in a 24-7 victory over Charlotte on Saturday. Army scored the opening 24 points of the game before Charlotte got scored a 16-yard touchdown pass with e ight seconds remaining in the fourth. Hellums' 50-yard run in the first quarter led to his 1-yard touchdown run to open the scoring. His 44-yard completion to Noah Short set up his second 1-yard touchdown run with 4:16 remaining in the third to make it 2 4-0.Carson Smith ended a 17-play, 85-yard drive with a short touchdown run for a 14-0 lead. Hellums completed 2-of-4 passes for 50 yards for Army (3-3, 2-2 American), which secured its first win at Michie Stadium this season after dropping the fir st two in overtime. Hayden Reed had 11 carries for 53 yards. Grayson Loftis and Zach Wilcke combined to go 16 of 26 - with eight completions apiece - for Charlotte (1-5, 0-3), which has lost three straight. Cale Hellums accounted for three touchdowns that included a 14-yard touchdown run with 2:52 left to help Army beat Kansas State 24-21 on Saturday night. Kansas State's (1-2) final drive ended when Avery Johnson threw an interception just past midfield. T he Black Knights (1-1) kept the ball on the ground, running the ball 70 times out of their 82 offensive plays. Army had four scoring drives of at least 13 plays, including three which took at least seven minutes, and outgained K-State 332-247 in total ya rds.Hellums completed 7 of 11 passes and ran 41 times for 124 yards. He tossed a 2-yard touchdown pass to Brady Anderson to end the first half. Hellums later added a 1-yard TD run late in the third quarter that gave the Black Knights a 14-13 lead, but Bryce Noernberg returned the ensuing kickoff 99 yards into the end zone and K-State regained the lead, 21-13. Army held a 40:44 to 19:16 advantage in time of possession and is the first K-State opponent to rush for more than 200 yards since late in the 2023 season.
