  Ty Pennington had a go-ahead touchdown pass and Darvon Hubbard, Quran Gossett and Seth Cromwell each had a touchdown run to propel Northern Arizona to a 31-18 victory over Idaho State on Saturday night. Pennington threw a 14-yard touchdown pass to Braden Kramer with 3:51 remaining in the second quarter and Hubbard added a 4-yard touchdown run with 34 seconds left to put Northern Arizona (5-3, 2-2 Big Sky Conference), ranked No. 22 in the FCS coaches' poll, up 21-10 at halftime. After a scoreless third quarter, Gossett had a 3-yard touchdown run at the end of a 16-play drive that took nearly seven minutes off the clock spanning the quarters to up the Lumberjacks' advantage to 28-10.

Jordan Cooke had a 23-yard touchdown pass to Michael Shulikov and a 2-point conversion pass to Jonah Burton to cut the Bengals' deficit to 10 with 8:52 remaining. Dason Brooks scored on a 6-yard run to give Idaho State a 7-0 midway through the first quarter, but Seth Cromwell answered with an 8-yard touchdown run to knot the score. The Bengals regained the lead on Trajan Sinatra's 40-yard field goal early in the second quarter. Pennington completed 24 of 30 passes for 171 yards. NAU totaled 200 yards on 45 rushes. Samuel Hunsaker's 41-yard field goal was the game's final score. Cooke totaled 256 yards on 26-for-39 passing with an interception for Idaho State (2-6, 1-3).   Quran Gossett rushed for 112 yards and two touchdowns, Ty Pennington threw for 262 yards and a touchdown, and FCS No. 15 Northern Arizona defeated Portland State 31-17 on Saturday. The Lumberjacks (4-1, 1-0 Big Sky) won their conference opener on the road for the first time since 2017, and their record through five games is their best since 2012. Portland State (0-5, 0-1) had won two straight games against NAU. NAU scored on their first four drives to take a 24-10 lead into the half and allowed no offensive scores in the second half. Portland State's lone points of the second half came on a 57-yard punt return by Jordan Herron. Gossett had a 29-yard touchdown rush for NAU's longest scoring play early in the fourth quarter. The Lumberjacks held Portland State to 325 yards of offense, and forced turnovers on downs on the last two Portland State drives. Pennington had touchdown passes of 33, 46, and 30 yards on the day, with his 46-yarder being a Hail Mary at the end of the half to put NAU up 21-10 going into the break.   Ty Pennington threw for 286 yards and three touchdowns to help Northern Arizona beat Incarnate Word 31-23 on Saturday. Pennington went 17 of 34 for 286 yards with scoring throws to Jayson Raines, Myseth Currie and Jeter Purdy. Kolbe Katsis added four catches for 95 yards as Northern Arizona averaged 16.8 yards per reception. Pennington's first-quarter strike made it 7-0, he added another in the second, and a short rushing score before halftime pushed the margin to 21-10.

After Incarnate Word cut it to 21-16 in the third, Pennington answered with a deep shot to Currie for a 28-16 lead. Samuel Hunsaker made a 50-yard field goal with 1:54 left in the fourth to cap the scoring. Incarnate Word's EJ Colson finished 28 of 36 for 292 yards with two touchdowns to Jameson Garcia, who caught nine passes for 120 yards. The Cardinals ran for 144 yards on 28 carries, led by Colson's 59. Northern Arizona held the Cardinals to six points in the third. - AP College Football

  Ty Pennington threw for 366 yards and three touchdowns as Northern Arizona survived a furious fourth-quarter rally to edge Southern Utah 50-49 on Saturday. Pennington connected with Kolbe Katsis for two long scores, including an 88-yard strike that highlighted a 28-point third quarter for the Lumberjacks (1-1). Katsis finished with 135 yards on six catches. Northern Arizona built a 49-28 lead behind Pennington and a balanced run game paced by Seth Cromwell who rushed for 87 yards and two touchdowns. Quran Gossett added a score on the ground as part of the Lumberjacks' four rushing touchdowns.

Southern Utah (1-1) nearly erased the deficit behind running back Joshua Dye, who carried 25 times for 171 yards and four touchdowns. The Thunderbirds added a 95-yard kickoff return score by Ran Sawyer to fuel a 21-point final quarter.   Ty Pennington passed for a touchdown and ran for another and Jaylan Wesley made two big interceptions as Northern Arizona held off Utah Tech 38-31 on Saturday. Wesley returned an interception 39 yards to the Highlanders' 5-yard line that set up Seth Cromwell's second touchdown run for a 24-7 lead. Cromwell scored on a 2-yard run for the Lumberjacks' first points. Utah Tech (1-1) scored twice in the fourth quarter to get within seven points and got the ball back with 1:34 left on its own 15 but Wesley picked off Reggie Graf to end the threat.

Pennington was 21 of 28 for 229 yards passing, with a touchdown and an interception for NAU (1-1). Kolbe Katsis had a 49-yard TD reception for a 31-10 halftime lead and finished with 82 yards receiving on three catches. Graff threw for 75 yards and ran for 74 more, including two touchdowns. Bronson Barben threw for a TD and was picked off twice. NAU, ranked 14th in the FCS coaches poll, won its eighth straight home game, tying a school record set over the 1978 and 1979 seasons. - AP College Football
