Matthew Schecklman threw for a career-high 359 yards and two touchdowns, Tysen Kershaw and Ayden Price combined for 278 receiving yards, and Northern Iowa beat Eastern Washington, 17-14 on Saturday night. The Panthers (2-1) allowed two straight fourth-qu arter touchdowns, and had a third erased on an illegal formation by the Eagles. A game-tying field goal attempt by Eastern Washington's Soren McKee sailed wide right.A 79-yard touchdown reception by Kershaw on the first NIU snap of the game put th e Panthers ahead for good. Max Bartachek connected on a 28-yard field goal as time expired in the first half, and Price hauled in a 63-yard scoring grab early in the third. Harrison Bey-Buie had 86 rushing yards on 26 carries. Owen Ostroski had five tack les and two sacks. UNI was 9 for 17 on third down and outgained Eastern Washington 495-276. Nate Bell threw for 159 yards on 21-for-35 passing to lead the Eagles (0-3), and added 89 rushing yards and two scores on 14 rushes. - AP College Football

Matthew Schecklman threw four touchdown passes and Northern Iowa defeated Butler 38-14 in a season opener to give Todd Stepsis a win in his debut as the Panthers' head coach. Stepsis came from Drake where he was head coach the past six seasons. Harrison Bey-Buie's 1-yard run capped an 80-yard drive and gave the Panthers a 17-14 halftime lead. Schecklman threw second-half TD passes to Tysen Kershaw, JC Roque Jr., and Ayden Price as Northern Iowa pulled away.Schecklman also threw a TD pass to Derek Anderson for Northern Iowa's first points. Schecklman was 15-of-25 passing. Bey-Buie had 81 yards on 12 carries. Northern Iowa outgained Butler 448-336. Reagan Andrew was 22 of 36 for 189 yards passing with a touchdown and two interceptions. He also led Butler in rushing with 75 yards and a score. Nick Munson had the TD reception. Butler had three turnovers, two leading to touchdowns. Butler also has a new head coach in Kevin Lynch. who came over from Ball State where he was assistant head coach and of fensive coordinator. - AP College Football
