LJ Martin ran for a career-high 222 yards and scored twice to help No. 11 BYU keep its Big 12 title-game hopes alive with a 26-14 victory over Cincinnati on Saturday night. After Brendan Sorsby's 19-yard TD pass to Jeff Caldwell cut the Cougars' lead to six points with 4:37 left, Martin had a 33-yard touchdown run to seal it for BYU (10-1, 7-1). The 222 rushing yards are eighth-most in school history. It's the 18th time a BYU running back has run for more than 200 yards, first since Tyler Allgeier ran f or 266 against Virginia in 2021. Sorsby passed for 300 yards with two touchdowns and an interception for Cincinnati (7-4, 5-3). The Bearcats have lost three straight. Bear Bachmeier's 6-yard touchdown run put the Cougars ahead 7-0 in the first quarter. H e has 11 rushing TDs to tie with Ronney Jenkins for second-most by a freshman in program history.Cincinnati's Manny Covey returned a punt 57 yards to the BYU 33. Two plays later, Sorsby tossed a 27-yard TD pass to Cyrus Allen to tie the score it a t 7. Allen has 11 touchdown receptions to lead the Big 12. Bearcats kicker Stephen Rusnak who was 12 of 13 on field-goal attempts, missed from 42 and 40 yards in the first half. He missed again from 48 in the third quarter. Sorsby, who went seven straigh t games without an interception, threw his fourth pick in three games early in the third quarter. The Cougars took advantage of the turnover with an 11-play 66-yard scoring drive. Martin's 1-yard TD run made the score 17-7. Martin rushed for 100 yards fo r the sixth time this season. An offsides penalty on the Bearcats on a punt extended BYU's drive leading to a 32-yard field goal by Will Ferrin that made it 20-7 with 14 minutes remaining. - BYU/AP College Football

Bear Bachmeier threw for 175 yards and ran for a touchdown to lead BYU to a 27-3 victory over Stanford on Saturday night. LJ Martin added 110 yards on the ground for the Cougars while averaging 6.1 yards per carry. It was Martin's second straight 100-yar d game and the fourth of his career. "He gets stronger as the game goes on," BYU coach Kalani Sitake said. "We just got to keep feeding him the ball." Chase Roberts added 84 yards on five catches. BYU (2-0) tallied three sacks, seven tackles for loss, an d forced three turnovers.Ben Gulbranson threw for 142 yards and had two interceptions for Stanford, which totaled 161 yards on offense. The Cardinal (0-2) mustered 12 first downs and went 2-of-13 on third down. "They did a good job in the run game ," Stanford interim coach Frank Reich said. "We got to be better there. If we're going to be a successful team and for us to win games, we have to have a balanced offense. We'll make the improvements there." BYU appeared poised to build on a strong offen sive showing after Bachmeier capped a six-play, 85-yard drive with a 3-yard TD run.
