10/05 WEEK 5 SOCON OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Gavin Garcia, 5th, RB, The Citadel, Catawissa, Pa.,...Garcia scored three touchdowns for The Citadel as the Bulldogs got a 34-31 road win over then-ranked No. 12/15 South Carolina State. The product of Cat awissa, Pennsylvania, ran for a season-high 160 yards on 18 carries, which produced two scores, and had an eight-yard touchdown grab in the second quarter. The fifth-year transfer had his longest rush of the day came with two minutes left in the game whe n he scampered for 44 yards on 3rd-and-one, helping set up the game-winning field goal by Evan Kiely as time expired. Garcia currently leads the SoCon in rushing yards per game (103.2), which is eighth in the FCS. 09/07 WEEK 1 SOCON OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Gavin Garcia, Gr., RB, The Citadel, Catawissa, Pa.,...Garcia rushed for 137 yards on 21 carries as The Citadel picked up a 43-41 win at Charlotte in three overtimes on Saturday. The graduate student record ed three touchdowns, including a 25-yard scamper in the first overtime which was named the No. 3 play of the day on ESPN's SportsCenter Top 10. The native of Catawissa, Pennsylvania, logged his other two scores from two yards out in the first quarter, an d an 1-yard score in the third quarter. On Monday, The Citadel was named the Stats Perform FCS National Team of the Week for the squad's victory over Charlotte. Gavin Garcia rushed for a career-high 151 yards and the game-winning score as Kent State rallied in the fourth quarter to defeat Northern Illinois, 35-31 on Friday in the season finale for both teams. The Golden Flashes (5-7, 4-4 Mid-American Conference) trailed 31-20 early in the final quarter, but Cade Wolford broke free for a 31-yard rushing score to cut the deficit to one possession. Kent State forced a punt and took the lead for good on Garcia's 26-yard rush with 4:11 left in regulation.Dru DeShields was 11-of-22 passing for 207 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. Dashawn Martin caught three passes for 91 yards and a score, and Wayne Harris had three catches for 46 yards. It was the first win for the Flashes at Northern Illinois si nce Sept. 25, 1966, breaking a 59-year drought. Northern Illinois (3-9, 2-6) was paced by Chavon Wright's 185 yards rushing and two touchdowns on 30 carries, and Jalen Macon added 65 yards and two scores on 17 carries.
