Luke Talich scored on an 84-yard pass on a fake punt and No. 9 Notre Dame won its 10th straight, routing Stanford 49-20 on Saturday night after a scary moment for star running back Jeremiyah Love. Afterward, Notre Dame coach Marcus Freeman said he felt h is team has done enough to be considered for the CFP. The fourth-leading rusher in the nation and a Heisman Trophy contender, Love was shaken up after running for a short gain midway through the first quarter. He remained down for a few moments, walked t o the locker room and didn't return until the second half. Love finished with 66 yards (8 after returning) and scored his 21st touchdown of the season, breaking Jerome Bettis' school record for overall TDs while tying Audrice Estime's record of 18 rushin g touchdowns in a season.Backups Jadarian Price and Aneyas Williams combined for 178 total yards of offense and four touchdowns. CJ Carr threw for 205 yards and two touchdowns as Notre Dame (10-2) retained the Legends Trophy. Elijah Brown passed f or 204 yards and a touchdown with one interception for Stanford (4-8). Emmett Kenney added two field goals. Talich scored on a 4th-and-19 pass from Joshua Burnham in the second quarter. The Irish scored touchdowns on each of their first four drives, led 28-3 at halftime then coasted. Jadarian Price scored four touchdowns, including a 100-yard kickoff return, and No. 24 Notre Dame beat Purdue 56-30 on Saturday for its first win of the season. The Irish beat the Boilermakers for the 10th straight time, including last season's 66-7 blow out. Notre Dame leads the series 61-26-2. Coming off losses against No. 4 Miami and No. 10 Texas A&M to start the season, Notre Dame (1-2) took command with three touchdowns in the third quarter to break away from a 35-23 halftime lead.Price score d three touchdowns rushing (21, 9 and 1 yards). He carried the ball nine times for 74 yards and finished with 216 all-purpose yards. Jeremiyah Love racked up 157 yards rushing on 19 carries, including scoring runs of 46 yards and 1 yard. Notre Dame quart erback C.J. Carr was 10-of-12 passing for 223 yards and two touchdowns. The game was delayed by 1 hour and 54 minutes due to a lightning delay late in the second quarter. The offseason hits keep on coming for Notre Dame's once-deep corps of running backs. Early-enrolled freshman Jadarian Price will miss the 2022 season after undergoing surgery Friday to repair a ruptured Achilles tendon, the school announced. After an imp ressive spring practice that included a star turn in the Blue-Gold Game, Price was injured during summer workouts. Logan Diggs, Notre Dame's top returning rusher at the position, underwent surgery in late April to repair a torn labrum in his shoulder. Di ggs, who rushed for 230 yards and three touchdowns as a freshman in 2021, could miss fall camp and then some, depending on what is typically a 4-6 month recovery period.Their injuries open the door for another freshman, former Indiana signee Gi'Br an Payne, to compete for playing time after enrolling this summer. Payne, a four-star recruit from Cincinnati, will join holdovers Chris Tyree and Audric Estime in the battle for playing time after two-time 1,000-yard rusher Kyren Williams was drafted in the fifth round by the Los Angeles Rams. Williams has injury issues of his own, having undergone surgery to repair a broken foot in early June after suffering the injury during organized team activities. - South Bend Tribune
