 Conner Weigman, Houston, Player News

  10/25/25 - QB Conner WeigmanrJr/2027, Houston, 6-3, 210 (DS#11 QB) + More +

Conner Weigman ran for two touchdowns and threw for another score, tight end Tanner Koziol had 100 yards receiving and Houston held on to beat No. 24 Arizona State 24-16 on Saturday night. The Cougars (7-1, 4-1 Big 12) won their third straight game and now have a good chance to move into the AP Top 25 for the first time since 2022. It was their first road win over a ranked team since 2017. Houston built a 24-0 early in the fourth quarter thanks to a methodical offense and physical defense that put pressure on quarterback Sam Leavitt. Eddie Walls III had two sacks. Arizona State (5-3, 3-2) rallied to cut it to 24-16 with 5:12 after backup quarterback Jeff Sims - playing for an apparently injured Leavitt - threw a 27-yard touchdown to Chamon Metayer. The Sun Devils got the ball back at their own 4 with a little more than two minutes remaining and a chance to tie, but couldn't muster a first down. It was a sloppy performance by the Sun Devils, who lost a fumble, had a player ejected for targeting, missed two field goal attempts and were called for 12 penalties.

The Cougars took a 10-0 lead into halftime and made it 17-0 early in the third quarter when Weigman hit Koziol for a 7-yard touchdown on a perfectly placed ball in the back of the end zone. Weigman - who played his first three college seasons at Texas A&M - finished with 201 yards passing and 111 yards rushing. Leavitt left the game midway through the first quarter after hitting the ground hard following a 14-yard run. He was down for a few minutes before eventually getting up and jogging to the sideline medical tent and then the locker room. Leavitt returned by the end of the first quarter, but by then the Sun Devils were already in a 10-0 hole. He finished with 270 yards passing. Malik McClain had 159 yards receiving. Arizona State was playing without Big 12 leading receiver Jordyn Tyson because of a hamstring injury. - Houston/AP College Football

Conner Weigman passed for two touchdowns and ran for another, and Houston overcame an early trick play to defeat Oklahoma State 39-17 on Saturday. Weigman completed 21 of 30 passes for 306 yards without an interception. He threw scoring passes on back-to-back drives in the second quarter to help Houston build 24-10 at halftime. Dean Connors had a rushing and receiving touchdown, and Ethan Sanchez kicked four field goals for Houston (5-1, 2-1 Big 12). Converted wide receiver Sam Jackson V struggled at quarterback for Oklahoma State (1-5, 0-3), which lost its third straight game under interim coach Doug Meacham. Jackson, starting because of injuries to Zane Flores and Hauss Hejny, completed 7 of 16 passes for 84 yards with an interception.

Noah Walters replaced Jackson with 7:40 left in the game and led a 75-yard scoring drive that ended with Walters finding Gavin Freeman for a 33-yard touchdown. Oklahoma State scored the game’s first points on a double pass. Jackson threw a lateral to Shamar Rigby and the receiver found running back Rodney Fields alone in the secondary for a 63-yard touchdown reception. With the score tied 10-all, Houston drove 67 yards in four plays, with Weigman throwing a 6-yard scoring pass to Connors, who reached high to make a one-handed grab in the end zone. - Houston/AP College Football

  09/27/25 - QB Conner WeigmanrJr/2027, Houston, 6-3, 210 (DS#11 QB) + More +

Ethan Sanchez kicked a 24-yard field goal in overtime and Houston rallied from a fourth-quarter deficit for a 27-24 victory over Oregon State on Friday night. Conner Weigman threw for 270 yards and two long fourth-quarter touchdowns for the Cougars, who improved to 4-0 for their best start since 2016 when they opened with five straight wins. Maalik Murphy threw for 201 yards and a touchdown for Oregon State, which fell to 0-5 to start the season. The Cougars trailed 24-10 in the fourth quarter, but Weigman threw a 27-yard touchdown pass to Stephon Johnson to close the gap for with 5:59 left. Houston tied it with Weigman's 50-yard pass to Tanner Koziol with 3:40 to go. "It was a hard win. We didn't play real good in the first half, particularly offensively," Houston coach Willie Fritz said. "But we started putting it together in the fourth quarter when we needed it. Thank goodness." The Beavers got within field goal range with five seconds left on the clock, but backup kicker Cameron Smith's 46-yard attempt was blocked and the game went to overtime.

Oregon State's fourth-and-1 attempt failed in overtime before Sanchez's game-winning field goal. "I mean, nothing brings a team closer than a game like this," Koziol said. "Now we've looked at each other in the face of a loss, and we brought it out to a win. We're going to come back stronger." Oregon State had control until the final quarter of regulation. Trey Glasper intercepted Weigman on the Houston 32 and ran it back to the 7-yard line. Jake Reichle finished the drive with a 1-yard touchdown run to put Oregon State up 7-0. Murphy threw a 5-yard touchdown pass to Marquis Crosby to make it 14-0. Houston threatened in the second quarter, getting as close as the Oregon State 1, but the Beavers' defense held despite several attempts and the Cougars settled for Ethan Sanchez's 25-yard field goal. Houston scored on Weigman's 1-yard run to make it 14-10 at halftime. - Houston/AP College Football

Conner Weigman threw for 222 yards and ran for 83 yards and two touchdowns - both career highs - to lead Houston over Colorado 36-20 on Friday night. The Cougars (3-0, 1-0 Big 12) were up by 5 late in the third quarter when Dean Connors ran 18 yards to get them to the 1-yard line. Weigman scored on the next play to make it 26-14. Blake Thompson intercepted Ryan Staub on the first play of the fourth quarter, but the Cougars couldn't cash in on the mistake after Ethan Sanchez missed a 50-yard field goal attempt. Houston forced a punt and Weigman made it 33-14 when he scored on a 7-yard run that was set up by a 54-yard pass to Stephon Johnson a play earlier. Staub got his first start of the season. He served as the backup to Shedeur Sanders the past two seasons and entered the year as the third-string quarterback behind Kaidon Salter, who started the first two games, and heralded freshman Julian Lewis. Staub earned the start this week after throwing two touchdown passes in a 31-7 win over Delaware a week prior.

Staub was 19 of 35 for 204 yards and a touchdown, but couldn't get much going in the second half as Colorado (1-2, 0-1) managed just six points after halftime and he was intercepted twice. Houston led 13-0 early after scoring on its first three possessions. Colorado cut the lead to 13-7 when Simeon Price capped a 10-play, 93-yard drive with a 38-yard touchdown run with about 7 1/2 minutes left in the second quarter. A field goal by the Cougars made it 16-7 with less than two minutes remaining in the first half. But the Buffaloes added a touchdown just before halftime to get within 16-14. Staub scrambled 19 yards but fumbled before he crossed the goal line and Zach Atkins jumped on the ball in the end zone for the score. - Houston/AP College Football

  01/30/23 - QB Conner WeigmanrJr/2027, Houston, 6-3, 210 (DS#11 QB) + More +

Texas A&M quarterback Conner Weigman is not expected to play baseball for the Aggies this spring, head coach Jim Schlossnagle confirmed Tuesday. Weigman moved into the starting quarterback role for the Aggies midway through the season this fall and with the departure of quarterback Haynes King by way of transfer has the edge on keeping the job next season. The Aggies also return transfer quarterback Max Johnson next season.

Weigman played in five games for the football team this season, throwing for 896 yards and eight touchdowns. The true freshman completed 73 of 132 passes. Weigman played shortstop for Bridgeland High School and was rated the 40th overall prospect in the state of Texas and 11th in his position in the class of 2022, according to Perfect Game. He was recruited to A&M as a two-sport athlete but did not play baseball last spring as an early enrollee while he integrated himself into the football program. - Bryan/College Station Eagle

  11/19/22 - QB Conner WeigmanrJr/2027, Houston, 6-3, 210 (DS#11 QB) + More +

Conner Weigman threw for 191 yards and a touchdown and Texas A&M overcame a sloppy and mistake-filled performance to snap a six-game skid with a 20-3 win over UMass Saturday. Texas A&M (4-7) entered the game as 33 1/2 point favorites against the Minutemen, who have won just one game this season. But the Aggies lost four fumbles and struggled to move the ball while playing without top running back Devon Achane and leading receiver Evan Stewart on a soggy and cold day. Weigman threw a touchdown pass in the second quarter to put A&M on top. The Aggies didn't get in the end zone again until Le'Veon Moss scampered 12 yards for a touchdown with about five minutes remaining to stretch the lead to 20-3.

The school announced a paid attendance of more than 90,000, but the crowd in the cavernous stadium looked sparse from the start and morphed into a ghost town by the third quarter as light rain steadily fell. It was a far cry from the atmosphere when the Aggies opened the season ranked No. 6 in the country with designs on competing for a national title. They've not only tumbled out of the poll since then but won't even make a bowl game this season, raising questions about the $75 million contract of coach Jimbo Fisher. Saturday's win is A&M's first since Sept. 24 to end the school's longest losing streak since 1972. It came as the Aggies took a break from the rigors of SEC play for a matchup with UMass (1-10), which is an independent team. Texas A&M will end this dreadful season next weekend with a visit from sixth-ranked LSU. - Texas A&M/AP College Football
