Memphis sophomore defensive lineman Kamren Washington has re-entered the transfer portal four months after committing to the Tigers, a source confirmed to The Commercial Appeal. The source was granted anonymity since an announcement has yet to be made pu blic. Washington is not listed on the Tigers' roster as of Friday. Washington is the second defensive lineman to transfer this week after senior Maurice White transferred on Monday. Washington was the reigning WAC Freshman of the Year last season at Sam Houston State after recording 13 tackles with a sack in 10 games. He committed to Memphis after spring practice on April 25, two weeks after entering the portal. - Memphis Commercial Appeal

Memphis added more help on the defensive line as former Sam Houston State lineman Kamren Washington committed to the Tigers. Washington was the WAC Freshman of the Year last season after recording 13 tackles with a sack in 10 games. The 6-foot-2, 265 pou nd native from Mansfield, Texas entered the transfer portal on April 12 according to his Twitter feed. Washington took a visit to Memphis during the spring game Friday and also had offers from Charlotte, Texas State, Louisiana Tech and North Texas among others. "Soon as I got there, it was just a click with (defensive line) Coach (Kyle) Pope and (head coach Ryan) Silverfield," Washington told The Commercial Appeal. "They have a good team and I think I can come make an impact in the system and help them win a championship." He also said the spring game environment factored into his decision along with loving the culture at Memphis. - Memphis Commercial Appeal

2021 WAC FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR (COACHES): Kamren Washington, DL, Sam Houston,...Washington, a defensive lineman from Mansfield, Texas, held his own on the talented Bearkat defensive line, finishing the season with 13 tackles and a sack. His best game came on Oct. 9 against Lamar, making four tackles in a 41-7 win over the Cardinals.
