William Atkins IV threw two touchdown passes and South Carolina State defeated Delaware State 28-17 in a regular-season finale Saturday to decide the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference title with its seventh straight win. After South Carolina State took a 1 4-3 halftime lead, Marquis Gillis scored on a 68-yard run early in the third quarter to cut the margin to four before Atkins responded with a 52-yard connection to Johnny Jones to restore the 11-point lead at 21-10 after three quarters. The teams traded touchdowns in the fourth quarter with Ryan Stubblefield giving the Bulldogs a two-score cushion on a 5-yard TD with five minutes remaining.Jalen Levin put the Bulldogs (9-3, 5-0) in front early with a 33-yard pick-6 and they would stay in front th ereafter. Atkins' 10-yard pass to Jordan Smith late in the second half made it 14-3. Atkins threw for 249 yards. Josh Shaw rushed for 99 yards on 16 carries and Nigel Johnson had 74 yards receiving. Josh Shaw broke free for a 30-yard touchdown dash with 1:51 remaining in regulation to complete South Carolina State's 34-27 victory over NC Central on Friday night. Shaw racked up 83 rushing yards on 10 carries to pace the ground attack for the Bulldogs (8-3, 4-0 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference), and KZ Adams added 52 yards on 14 touches. William Atkins IV threw for 314 yards and three touchdowns on 24-of-36 passing, and was picked off once.SC State led 17-3 after one quarter of action, but a fu rious comeback from NC Central saw them trailing 20-17 headed to the locker rooms. Chris Mosley ran for 105 yards and a touchdown on 21 carries. The Bulldogs tied the game early in the fourth quarter on a 24-yard strike to Jordan Smith by Atkins IV. Smit h caught seven passes for 72 yards, and Deyandre Ruffin and Nigel Johnson also caught touchdowns. Jarod Washington had a pick-6 and returned a blocked field-goal attempt for a touchdown as South Carolina State beat Howard 42-12 on Saturday for the Bulldogs' fifth straight win. Washington's 27-yard pick-6 was part of a 21-point first quarter for the B ulldogs (7-3, 3-0 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) and his 56-yard return made it 28-3 at the end of the half.William Atkins IV threw a pair of touchdown passes and finished with 213 yards. He was intercepted once. Jordan Smith had rushing and rec eiving touchdowns. Jalen Johnson made six catches for 87 yards and a score. William Atkins IV threw for 363 yards and a touchdown, Tyler Smith ran for a pair of touchdowns and South Carolina State held off Morgan State for a 36-30 win on Saturday. South Carolina State (6-3, 2-0 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) led 7-0 after the first quarter, 28-10 at halftime and 33-10 after three. Nico Cavanillas Alti registered the Bulldogs' final points with a 36-yard field goal with 12:58 left to make it 36-10.Morgan State quarterback Raymond Moore III threw a 14-yard touchdown to D orian Harris with 8:29 left and a 25 yarder to Joseph Kennedy Jr. before a failed two-point conversion with 2:03 to go. After the recovery of an onside kick, Moore ran it in from the 4 less than a minute later to reduce Morgan State's deficit to 36-30. S outh Carolina State recovered the onside kick and ran a pair of plays allowing time to expire. Smith ran for 110 yards on 18 carries for the Bulldogs. Jordan Smith caught four passes for 107 yards. William Atkins IV threw four touchdown passes, Jordan Smith caught two of them, and South Carolina State routed Norfolk State 51-20 in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference opener for both teams on Saturday. Atkins found Smith on a 75-yard strike to put the Bulldogs up 24-7 in the second quarter. Atkins connected with him less than four minutes later on a 36-yard touchdown with 1:07 left in the half. It's only the second time in Smith's career he's caught two touchdown passes and crossed the 100-yard thresh old. Both performances came against Norfolk State, the first in November of 2022.Atkins was 24 of 36 for 428 yards and four touchdowns, both career highs, for South Carolina State (5-3). He also had an interception midway through the fourth. Norfo lk State (1-7) opened the scoring with a 22-yard touchdown from Otto Kuhns to JJ Evans, but Mason Pickett-Hicks gave the Bulldogs (5-3, 1-0) a lead they never relinquished with a 3-yard rush early in the second quarter.
